I know most of these tools are out of reach for the regular "back yard mechanic" but the general guidelines of the metal work and welding process is there. Enjoy, interesting in the least.
Yeah I'm actually going in for my second year Metal Fabrication Apprenticeship in October, gonna be doing lots of TIG work apparently. Very excited for the thin wall/aluminum applications.
I was actually considering a coffin shape gas tank for my project because I have no access to rollers or shrinkers.
I love TIG welding thin aluminum, been doing it a couple years at work, but just here and there. Making pretty welds on .040" thick stuff is fun! Had to get a sample x-rayed to be certified to weld on aircraft components.
Ron Covell could make creating a car from scratch look easy. But his tool setup is actually quite easy. I made a tank, and matching fenders at school. Went to wyotech, learned quite a bit contrary to what most people hear. Next bike i want to make everything from scratch.
