yep .5 thickness. I had to look at the caliper photo and check. Those old calipers ran thru the batteries too often. I found a new set at Lowes im using now.

that's what I used for the upper mounts. real easy to work with. holds very well once bolt is tightened.
used 1-1/8 for the lower. little bit tougher to work.

pardon me for not clarifying. both pieces were 1/16 thickness. The top piece was 3/4 in wide and the lower 1-1/8 wide.

I wanted to kind of mirror the width of the respective triple clamps: thin at the top, beefy at the bottom.

Looks fantastic! Mine are little 1/2 inch things, looks like Popsicle sticks holding a tiny round headlight on the front of the massive bike.
