National US Rally at Deal's Gap by: DougZ
This was the second year that I attended the National US Rally at Deal's Gap. Last year, I had towed down with a buddy of mine from here in NJ. This year, I took the woman with me...
We used her truck and a buddy's enclosed trailer. I own an open bike trailer, but after checking the bearings on it the weekend before we were set to leave, and not wanting to trust them for the 14 hr, each way drive, I went with the enclosed trailer. It was heavier, but did provide good shelter for the bike, both while towing down & back, and while there.
The rally is usually the last Friday and Saturday of the first week of June, and the festivities are held at Fontanna Village...and has been, for the fours years that the rally has been going on. Its a very nice place....I highly suggest it to anyone who is heading down that way. We had departed 3:30 am, the night before..to get down there late Thursday afternoon/early evening.
The ride down was not bad at all...taking Rt 95 south, to Rt 85 south, and then across NC on Rt 40, then 74 and finally Rt 28...where Fontanna Village is off of. The Dragon itself starts in NC, but then crosses over the TN border and finishes there....at a scenic look out. These two shots are from that over look:
These are the shots from the group get together, before the dinner and awards banquet. Something pretty neat that we/they do in person, is the revfest. You guessed it, everyone starts their bikes up and revving the crap outta them. I did not have my bike there for this.
