"No Country For Old Men"
By: Frapps

The Coen brothers' epic independent film, "No Country for Old Men", is a gritty and thrilling instant classic. This film is a much need break away from the comedic criminals featured in many of today's blockbusters movies. Realistically bloody and violent while maintaining exceptional writing and cinematography; the Coen brothers have effectively redefined the genre of suspense thrillers and set the bar very high.

WARNING this film is not for the faint of heart. There is no shortage of sadistically evil acts that push the audience into a level of discomfort that makes you reevaluate your own beliefs. My girlfriend, on the other hand, was very unpleased that I brought her to such a flick and it ultimately meant I was forced to watch 4 episodes of "Coronation Street" but boy was it worth it. This film basically has 3 types of viewers 1) Those who loved it 2) Those who hated it 3) And those who didn't get it. The dived between these groups is almost dead even with almost no intermingling within groups.

This impressive film, staring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, Woody Harrelson and many others, is an adaptation from the book by the same name written by Cormac McCarthy. The movie is set in near the US-Mexico boarder in Texas in or around the mid to late 70's. An antelope hunter Llewellyn Moss, who we find out later is a Vietnam veteran, stumbles across a drug deal gone back in which he finds a pickup truck full of Heroin and a case containing over 2 million dollars and several dead bodies. Moss takes the money but soon those who were involved in the deal are chasing him and there seems to be no way out.

This film like many of McCarthy's books is simplistic in plot but exceptionally complex in philosophical ideas. McCarthy often looks at destiny and the power of nature far exceeding the power of man in many of his books. All in all I give it 5 wrenches out 5.

Another of McCarthy's books has just been picked up for screen adaptation as well. His Pulitzer Prize winning book "The Road" is set in the near future in which a son and farther are trekking across a vast wasteland that used to be earth trying to survive.Production is scheduled for 2009

Rehab, not just for quitters
by: HellBilly

Let me preface this story by saying, music is what I do for a living. I'm a sound engineer, doing concerts and such for my daily bread. So I'm a bit jaded when it comes to new music and bands. But every once in a while I get to mix a group that is genuinely good and deserves some recognition for their effort.

Rehab is one of these groups. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Danny Alexander (vocals), Mike Hartnett (Guitar), Hano Leathers (Bass), Chris Hood (Drums) and Foz (Guitar) have developed a Rock / Rap crossover style that appeals to the most hardcore fan of either genre. Their first album “Southern Discomfort” was released in 2000 with an array of guest players like Cee-Lo, Goodie Mob and Cody Chestnut. And after a top 15 modern rock hit with “It Don't Matter” and roughly 150,000 copies sold, they earned a 2-year support spot on the Vans Warped Tour.

Seven years and two albums later, Rehab is still hard at work touring the U.S. in support of their newest work, “Graffiti The World”. Performing to a virtual cross section of the population, Rehab brings together driving guitars, heavy groove oriented bass lines and a booty shaking beat, that coupled with lyrics that anyone can relate to, makes even the most staunch music snobs bop their heads in appreciation for what these guys bring.

The current album “Graffiti The World” is in stores now. Although, in my opinion the album doesn't do this band justice and if you have a chance, see these folks live. It will definitely be a good time.
