So last Saturday, we loaded up the cars and went to Lawrence, KS, for the show. I went a bit early so I could pick up my little brother and his girlfriend and more importantly, the tickets. As usual, my friends were very late getting there, so we barely got in the door with our vouchers.
Now it's ten minutes from the show and we're stuck most of the way back in a crowd of a thousand people with a unique situation. My brother's girlfriend is handicapped, so we figured we'd be able to find a spot off to the side/in the back where she'd still be able to see. Nope. They packed this room completely full of people. After a little talking with the KU student union workers, they talked to their boss and got us something I never expected. They put us on a balcony overlooking the ballroom with no crowd, no mosh pit and the ability to be 15 feet from the stage (and right next to the production office and dressing rooms, coincidentally).
The six of us got what seemed like VIP treatment the rest of the night. I can't thank their student affairs office more.
Now for the show. Contrary to what all fliers and announcements for the show indicated, the line-up began with And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead and ended with Dethklok, which is the way it should have been.
And You Will Know Us put on a disappointing show. Scratch that, terrible show. It wasn't even because of their music. I'm not a fan of their style of music but I can definitely sit through it. It's not quite emo, not metal, not very good -- it's just there.
What made the show a disappointment was one of their band members. I don't know the band well enough to say who it was, but if I were in a band with him, he wouldn't be in the band long. |
