Icon Domain 2 Devil Dog Review
by: HellBilly

So after years of going lidless and still riding 4 seasons I finally broke down and decided it was time to buy a helmet. After doing a bit of research and looking at literally dozens of makes and models, I finally decided on the Icon Domain 2. Reason being, it had all the features I was looking for, and it had a paint job that appealed to the veteran in me.
The Devil Dog. Below is a featured quote directly from the Icon website.

“The second coming of the Domain helmet features everything the original Domain has to offer-a light weight composite shell, multiple ram air ducts, fully removable comfort interior, and a fog free quick change shield-but goes one step further by including our new Proshield system. With a shield lock and sideplates, the Proshield is ready to keep you locked down and looking good. Function and fashion-that's the way we do it.

Icon Domain 2 Devil Dog
  1. Carbon Fiber/Dyneema/Aramid composite shell for strength
  2. DOT and SNELL M2005 approved (North America) ECE 22-05 approved (Europe)
  3. Shield lock closure system
  4. Dorsal vent for additional ram-air induction
  5. Large rear exhaust ports route hot air out of helmet
  6. Removable molded breath deflector reduces shield fogging
  7. Removable chin curtain seals out unwanted turbulence
  8. Unique bottom mounted chin air intake system
  9. Quick change fog-free proshield, designed to accept replaceable custom sideplates”

Pros: All in all the Domain 2 is a great helmet. It’s relatively lightweight. The anti-fog shield actually works as described. You can cough or sneeze and it won’t fog. I did, however, get a bit of fog while sitting at traffic control devices for more than a couple of minutes while riding in temperatures under 30 degrees. The moisture quickly dissipated when I cracked the shield. Ventilation is more than enough and no leaks were found even in the heaviest downpour. The helmet is very comfortable and wind noise is minimal, but noticeable.
Cons: Other than a premium price, $380.00 to $390.00 full retail. The only real complaint is that the field of vision seems to be a little tight, meaning my peripheral vision was a bit restricted and that there seems to be a slight distortion in the visor, dead center. Neither of which were bad enough to make me regret my purchase.
In the dead of winter, with temps around 10 degrees my Devil Dog keeps my head warm, dry and protected. Sizing seems to run about a size small. I found that with most manufacturers I wore an XL. While with the Domain 2, I needed an XXL. So if your going to order off the net, I’d suggest going into a dealer and trying on a few first.
Bottom Line. I love My Domain 2 and would purchase another if the need arose.
