What year is it off of?

First, I would like to preface this months rambling with an apology to those who work parts counters and actually have a clue. I know you guys bust your asses and have to deal with A LOT of difficult customers. I am sure the majority of the people in this world that own and want to buy things for a motorcycle are basically clueless.
HOWEVER, to those morons that work parts counters and have never ridden, let alone worked on a motorcycle I strongly suggest finding an alternate method of paying your bills.
The other day I went to the local Suzuki dealership, not my favorite chore to accomplish, but I needed a fork seal and didn’t really want to wait on shipping from an internet order. So I walk up to the parts desk, and am forced to listen to three employees chat about the plans to that evening, while the fourth employee searched a parts book for a clueless customer trying to order one of those “shiny things to replace the shifty lever thingy” (I really don’t make this shit up, I just write it like I see it). Finally one of the parts guys gets bored with his conversation and decides to help me. He asks what he can do for me and I say I need Suzuki part # 51153-27C20. Now by this time I have searched the part number on the official Suzuki microfiche from home before leaving to ensure I get the right part, I also noted that the part could be purchased online for $7.49. So crafty parts guy asks me “what bike is it going on?” I answer with “It’s an ’03 VL-800 but those are not the stock forks, so I got the part number for you” Rocket surgeon parts guy then proceeds to look on the computer for the part, turns, and states “that part number is not on a VL-800”. I say that I understand that, I have different forks on the bike and I need the seal with the part # 51153-27C20. Parts genius then asks “What year is your bike?” To which I ask “Which part of it?” Again crafty little parts idiot looks at me like I just skinned his pet kitten in front of him. I decide to change to a different tactic. I tell parts idiot that I have an 03 Vl-800 that I have replaced the forks with a set from an ’01 VZ-800 and I need a fork seal with the parts number of 51153-27C20. After some more searching on his computer stupid parts moron informs me that those forks will not fit on my bike.
Now, at this point I am more than a little frustrated because this exchange has taken a little over ten minutes. I see a manager walking by and I stop him, I explain that I am having difficulties getting a part, and the retarded elf he has working for him cannot seem to assist me. I then say “I am trying to get a set of fork seals with Suzuki part # of 51153-27C20. I shit you not; the manager looks at me and said……. “Great, what year is your bike?”
God Bless the internet………
