Just found this website and love the bikes and custom mods!

I'm working on a custom streetfighter, but not sure if you guys are into smokers around here.

I would appreciate any advice or tips on modding you guys can provide. I've made a lot of progress, but still have a long way to go.

The bike is a 1985 Yamaha RZ350, but there won't be much left of the original bike left when I'm done.

I'll post some pics of my build to get you guys caught up to where I am now.

Shit yeah. You got any pics of say the entire bike?

By the way great first post!
Thanks!

I'll try to find a full bike shot.

I got some magnesium wheels to save weight:

I took this drawing of a 2001 R1 Rear Wheel and modified it to remove the swingarm offset, and set the sprocket to give 5mm chain-to-frame clearance and 5mm chain-to-tire clearance.

Hope my calculations are close, I've never done this before!

Don't know if you guys have seen one of these, but it's great for pulling the lower bearing race off the lower triple. Then it's just a matter of pressing the RZ bearings onto the GSXR stem, and making a custom spacer for the difference in stem height.

More front end conversion parts.

YanaShiki '07 GSXR600 Top Clamp:

LSL Fatbar Clamps for 1 1/8 inch handlebars. This model is for an FZ1:

I want the bars to be rubber-mounted, so I ordered parts from an FZ-1 for the top clamp (#12, 21, 22, 23, 24).

This website is just what I've been looking for. I've never seen so many completely sick bikes! - I've started by looking through the monthly contests and the pics are stunning. Thanks for bringing some added motivation to my project.

I found a very old photo of the full bike. This pic is soooo old it's an actual photograph- you know- from film, on actual paper---remember those?

Now, I have to apologize for the body color - but it seemed okay at the time....:jpshakehead.sml:

your bike is coming along great. like to top clamp. all nice and shiny.

did you measure your bearings and races yourself or you got tech specs from other models?
I knew the RZ O.D. size because I previously converted the ball bearings to needle roller bearings, so I just had to use the I.D. from the GSXR stem. I found the bearings at All Balls Racing. You can find the bearing part # on their website, if you have the measurements.

The bottom side of the YanaShiki top clamp is visible, so instead of using a fender washer, I designed these custom caps to go on the bolts for the handlebar clamps. The flat edge is so that you don't see the caps through the cut-outs in the top clamp.

I still have to shape one to fit around the ignition switch mount - and also have to cut rubber washers to fit between the caps and the top clamp. Instead of the flange nut in the photo, I'm using anodized aluminum (sprocket) flange nuts with stainless steel inserts.

damn how much money are you puttin into all this?
Honestly - if I kept track of that, this project wouldn't be interesting at all. It probably wouldn't even get done.

It's taken me a year of borrowing money to get this far. I have a neuticle lined up, since I've already given my left nut - and some bitch wants to put my liver on lay-away. I'm not even sure what that means.

I don't care if it'll buy me some carbon fiber.

I was way off guessing your profesion. I though engineer with all the CAD drawings and custom machining going on in this thread.

How long have you been working on it? Look forward to your progress.
The CAD drawing is a 2001 Yamaha R1 rear wheel. I got it from Dymag because I told them I wanted a custom size rear wheel. They sent me the CAD drawing, and I figured out what changes I wanted, and they built the wheel from that.

It's the first time I've done this level of custom work, so I'm hoping everything will fit right when it's all done.

Got these carbon fiber bars on ebay. Since I bought them, I've wanted another set - but can't find the seller, or any one else that sells CF bars.

If anyone knows where to get some CF bars, please let me know!

Almost a year. You guys will soon see that I still have a long way to go.

Don't know how much longer I can survive on macaroni & cheese and beer.

These arent the cables I'm using - I'm just trying to figure out how to route them out of the way of the gauges.

The handlebar clamps are loose in this pic.

wow i leave this place for a few hours to work on my bike and miss so much.

welcome the bike looks awesome. loving all the custom work your doing to it. keep on modding.:rock::rock::rock:
Yeah, I've been posting like a mofo to get you guys caught up. It will slow down to a daily grind, soon.

Thanks to all you guys for the nice welcome. It will take a while for me to get to know all your bikes - looking forward to it!

Got a new ignition & keys.

Shaved the keys to get rid of the logos:
