I bet a 5.3 Chevy pushrod motor would fit nice in there.

I bet it would too. Especially if it had an attached 6 speed manual transmission and dual stick transfer case. Probably get better fuel economy and run more reliably.

But I am keen on getting a slightly bigger truck and don't want to make this that much of a project.

Sigh, had the time to break into her further and get out the leak down tester.

Driver side, 80% leakage with a lot coming from the intake port (exhaust is still attached, could be damaged too). Passenger side, 12% leakage.

Means at the very least, I need to pull the driver head. I don't think it's possible (or that I want to) with the engine in the truck and will be removing the engine for a second time. Sigh.

Bigger and heated. I will be rearranging things a bit in the garage and then pushing the truck in the garage on the shelving side. (Just got to get a way to push it into the garage...)

Any chance you will have a few free nights in late October / November time frame to wrench and drink beers?

For sure. Got some new tools that'll probably help too.
