Default Clear coat over bare metal - suggestions?

I'm looking at stripping my tank and clearcoating it, I think it would look cool bare. However, I don't know how well clearcoat will stick to un-primed bare metal. Any suggestions? Or, would I be better off using oil/wax of some sort, and a scotchbrite pad every now and then?

A steering damper dampens steering oscillations. If it starts to leak, it may become a steering dampener. There's no such thing as a dampner.

are you taking about auto clear or spraycan clear? spray can clear would be cheap, easy, and resprayable, but won't resist gas. auto clear should hold ok i would imagine

I don't have a spray gun so it'll have to be rattlecan, but I'm willing to spend money on good rattlecan rather than cheap shit.

I hear regular clear coat has trouble sticking to bare metal...

Never had a lick of trouble with auto clear on bare metal. In fact I have a Schwinn klunker frame getting cleared at the race shop right now.

I found it, but it appears that you used it as a clear over paint rather than on bare metal - right?

Correct. I doubt it will perform any differently on bare metal vs paint as long as the metal has some scuff to it.

your better off waxing and polishing it to create a barrier from the elements. Just shooting a clear coat over the bare metal might look cool but its not offering you and protection. If you polish your tank you cannot shoot clear over it because the chemicals will not adhere.
