Spent too much of the weekend playing with this.

I don't think I will continue with this template for my under tail, I think, it'll turn out shit, even if I was able to do the greatest fibreglass job ever, BTW I've never made any a fibreglass part.
Any advice on using it as a buck and beating a sheet of aluminium over it??

So I used my ghetto lathe, combo of pedestal drill and angle grinder to make these.

And more good news, picked up one of these, CBR929, requires a space and longer bolt.
Name: C.F.11.1.jpg

And some of these.

Will be having a word with Mr Chinlee and paypal about their quality control.

Best news was I got one of these for $100 off ebay, don't see many of these floating around second hand, I won't be needing to drill my out my stock triple after all.
Probably give it a lick of paint to freshen it up.

Subframe under tail in limbo waiting for some inspiration, or google images to rip off
someone else's idea that they have borrowed.

So I started with this, Fire Engine Red (house paint).
Name: C.F.12.1.jpg
Views: 225
Size: 95.8 KB
The red "top coat" came off relatively easy, unearthing a layer of black.
Name: C.F.12.2.jpg
Views: 226
Size: 82.8 KB
Then white.
Name: C.F.12.3.jpg
Views: 226
Size: 93.5 KB
The grey was more difficult than the 2 previous layers.
Name: C.F.12.4.jpg
Views: 225
Size: 90.8 KB
Under that, the original clear, paint and undercoat, the OEM red was a nice colour.
Name: C.F.12.5.jpg
Views: 225

Eventually, bare metal, and some etch primer, it still has a dent in the top that I would like to work out and fill.
This took several afternoons with paint stripper, I am yet to find a part of this bike that has not had the deft hand of spray in a can, good news is that my tolerance to paint stripper is developing, it doesn't sting half as much as before starting this project

Took the tank off to clean it up and the next thing I've pulled most of the bike apart.

I have never taken a bike this far apart.....ever.

At least it will be easier to remove more spray paint now, finish the subframe
and hopefully be able to get it back together by the completion deadline.

Removed the throttle bodies and sheared off one of the air funnel hold down screws,
must remember to drill and retap it.

One of the throttle cables was not returning, turned out it was rusted and broken, with a section still remaining in the housing, picked up two used ones.

Xmas came early with some Ebay special grips and bar end indicators, the now painted top triple, already had the handlebars, will require some drilling for control bungs and cabling.

Hey Speedy, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery....thanks
I did make some brackets for the oil cooler and rubber bushes for the radiator.
Shout out to Dicko for his welding of new the oil cooler to AN fittings......thankyou.

Q.What could these be for?

And now back to the paint stripper and degreaser, subframe undertail still on hold.

With the frame off the bike and up on a bench it's almost like cheating,
soooo much easier to work on, finished welding the subframe braces
for the seat mounts and seat lock mechanism.

Made a new tank mount, actually my second attempt as the first was a
door hinge mounted between the subframe members and not only did it
hinder future battery compartment but looked absolute shit.

Name: C.F.15.2.jpg
Views: 170
Size: 119.3 KB

Still used a door hinge but brass and cut in half and mounted on top of
the sub frame rails.

Name: C.F.15.3.jpg
Views: 172
Size: 94.2 KB

Will have to do something about decorating the nuts hanging out the side of the subframe

Name: C.F.15.4.jpg
Views: 173
Size: 97.6 KB

May have also finally came up with the answer to my subframe undertail conundrum.

A safe and happy xmas to all.

So on a windswept rainy day, I found a length of valley iron round the side of the house and started practising my sheet metal work.

The crease down middle added some much needed depth to this build.

I knew eventually that I could get this undertail to work if I stuck with it.....

The folds, I will call them compound folds, towards the end were doing my head in
and I'd decided to incorporate the indicators as well into the sheet metal under tail.

Now with flaps and wings added.

Splashed some paint on this one, but the creases ruined it.

Getting there, but still not good enough

to be continued........

I needed a break, the undertail was giving me the sheets, and having some time of over Xmas provided the perfect opportunity.
so I plunged into the petrol tank, with a log splitter

Name: C.F.18.1.jpg
Views: 156
Size: 112.8 KB

Removed the fuel pump and gave it some gentle massage.

Name: C.F.18.2.jpg

Then bogged, bondo, filled the dent up.

Highlighting the faults, it detracts from the positives..
but yes there is a slight imperfection that some spray putty could not hide.

Name: C.F.18.4.jpg

And with a lot of wet sanding

Name: C.F.18.5.jpg
Views: 153

One day it will be a sparkly white and perfectly shaped, but until then $20 bucks in a can
looks damn fine to me.

Love whats happening with all the angles on this, even if I do say so myself.

and like Shiny, considering some blue stripes.....

Whilst waiting for a few do dads in the mail, thought I'd give upholstering my seat a go.
Got enough material for 2 goes at it for $32.
I have previous experience covering a footstool in highschool 36 years ago,
if I remember it didn't turn too shabby, time for another go.....

Recommend undertaking this operation on the kitchen bench, Tea and T.V within easy reach.

As I said before, I've never taken a bike down to this level and put it back together.

But this has got me very, very excited.

And particularly this pic.

not quite as much with this.

and this is just to complete the 360 degree veiwage

I don't know how it's going to end up.......at this stage it doesn't matter.
