Default spyra78 - single swinger shafty Virago 750 - build

hello there!
pretty new here and looking for inspirations... Just started my own Virago 750 82 project couple of weeks ago...

I hope i can still get into the 2013 build off ). Can i?

discussion thread

Here is where i got till now:
all started as a nearly stock one:

had those two to choose from:

then:

had to work on a head tube a bit to fit the gixxer front:

the triple clamps were all different bikes so had to be machined slightly too to fit on the forks..
managed to put it all together without bigger problems and i luv the look of it

while tidying up my garage i found a nice old seat:

cleaned it an planning to put some nice brown leather on it:

then i started on the engine- want it done mirror like:

this is only beginning:

as u can c i got rid of the edge of the casing. want to make it as smooth as possible...
it all will take some time but ill try to get it done asap...

what do you guys think?
All sugestions welcome!

I had it all written down as i was working on the bike so i just paste it here
I thought its good time to show few pics of it as i seriously started to believe that buld will go well

saturday:
not much was going on so here are few pics:

just thought what to do with the tank... racing green, black, black cherry..
and maybe some stripes

then cleaned the tank
before

and after:

sanding, sand blastin, grinding and polishing day... i can feel no arm.. went numb ;]

.

.

now i realised why hand made stuff is often very expensive.. will never say that something hand made is too expensive,,

...so i decided to use a single side swing arm... polished one will have to end up on the shelve till the next project

the ''new'' wheel is getting better...

then cleaned the calipers...

and the chopped the frame needed for the new swinger ... i was scared for a moment once i have done it....

then i put few things together and the idea of the bike apeared...
my humble opinion.. not at all bad )

yessss

havent decided on the type of the seat yet...

i am pretty sure there will b single sided plate holder...

but we will c...

to be continued...

and here is the most recent update:
on whats done today:
made a proper stiff table(about 10cm to tall so gonna have to chop them legs) to bolt the bike to it for th build time...
already bolted the front of the bike to it and going to mount the frame and the swinger to it tomorrow...

just a little update:

decided to change the jig to make it easier to put in a straight line, level and plumb.
Bought two nice thick pipes and .. well u can c it on the pics.

Also hang the bike so its much easier to move around..

so far i spent around 1500 USD
will make a whole list at the end of the build. planning to close it in 2500. We will c..;]

tbc...

Hi!
firstly: i was asked to upload some pic with the newspaper with date so here's a couple:

and now what i have done so far:
once i had it all bolted to the jig in a straight line, level and plumb, i started on beefing up the swing arm mount:
made it all fit nicely, mocked it up:

then made few welds here and there to keep it together on its place:

once placed few strong welds on i could unmount the rear wheel off of the jig and take the whole swinger out along with the mount ( gonna keep it bolted to the swing arm for final welding:

and here is the closer look:

i quite like the way it looks. Pretty massive. But im sure there will be few changes and xtrapieces welded in to make it stiffer.

off to the garage now

didnt have much time to work on it lately so just a small job done:
polished some stuff. Unfortunatelly the alloy on the swinger is different and doesnt want to get shiny...:/.
Will have to work on it a bit longer i guess. Not sure if it will work though.
Any suggestions on what polishing stuff to use?
