How much are you thinking the pipes will grow?

Engine cradle needs to stay. Supports the front of the engine and engine torque bars.
The crossbar on the cradle will be cut down to size, and sliders mounted on the ends.

A 20" stainless header will grow almost .100" at 500 degrees. That being said I dont know the operating temp you'll be seeing. When both ends are fixed the stress can easily cause welds to fail. I've had to repair lots of improperly mounted pipes. Not saying you'll have a problem it's just something to keep an eye on.

With a race car on the dyno I've seen an exhaust grow over an inch and a half out of the bumper, it was pretty wild to see.

Oh, longer.

I thought you were talking about diameter. Will be both, for sure.

I'll look at the bushings Jeff made, but was already thinking about upgrading them. Will make sure they can flex in all directions.

Forgot to mention that the radiator will mount on the aluminum cradle, in the usual spot.

It will grow in diameter too, but not by enough to really notice.

Didn't know anything about electropolishing.

Jeff uses it for his science projects, and suggested it for the pipes.

Found a place, and trying to work out details. Got this response:

"304 and 316 both should polish up nice. I think it will be about $150 for all four pieces. Also, We will pre-treat the welds before we electro polish the entire part."

That's a lot of pre-treating!

I was worried it would cost more. It's in another league, compared to mechanical polishing. Much safer in terms of accidental damage to the pipes. Should make a noticeable difference for gold nitriding the stingers.

I'm a fan of the raw welded look, personally, but $150 ain't a bad price.

Me, too. Love the contrast and the beads.
Most times, I would just do a mild polish, and preserve the welds.
On this bike, have to consider the amount of bling on the engine. I think the welds might make things too busy.
Both side covers have a good amount of polished aluminum. Full polished pipes will match better.
The stingers will be nitrided with solid bright gold. Different gold than the welds. Solid polished pipes will match the stingers better.
Also, Jeff's not a pro welder. They're good welds, but nothing like dimestack or you could do. Polishing will help the welds to look better.
My rationale.

My understanding is electropolish is a form of chemical etch. We have equipment electropolished for sanitary reasons and if there are rough surfaces or gouges and scratches, they are still present in the final part, just mirror finish. It doesn’t seem to remove much material, so it has that advantage over abrasive polishing.
