Default what to look for when buying a used/wrecked bike...

Is there a place on this forum with bike specific information and guidelines for n00bs looking at buying a bike to fighter? Such as which models through which years had known issues and what those issues were, or why certain bikes would mechanically lend themselves better to be made into streetfighters than others.

The reason I ask is because I have a very specific taste in motorcycles. I spent months deciding on my current bike, researching and window shopping, before I made a decision. I see potential aesthetically where many others might not, but I am all but clueless when it comes to working on mechanical stuff.

Ive been looking at a lot of Ducatis, Triumphs, and Buells as a potential next bike, but I know the Ducs and Triumphs have some shadey areas in their history, and though I haven't been able to find much regarding the Buells (pre XB specifically) I can only assume they do as well.

I'm confident that a resource like the one I'm asking about exists, I just haven't known where to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks UF,

Those are really informative when looking for a used/wrecked bike in general. Incidentally I have already read through most of those a number of times. I am actually looking for more make/model/year specific type of information.

Not sure if there is a resource that covers multiple bikes. you may have to check several bike specific forums for the info you're looking for.

Yeah I figured that was my best bet. Thats what I have been doing, I figured it wouldnt hurt to check here for a streetfighterers POV on the issue since there are literally hundreds of different makes/models/years of bikes being built/rebuilt on this forum. I looked around and couldnt find it, so I thought Id ask to see if maybe I just missed it. Thanks anyway though. I appreciate the responses all the same.

As a frame of reference though, I did come accross this: Buell info This is more or less the kind of info I am looking for.

The AIR system on any bike usually fails, and a carbed bike will be tuned lean from the factory for emissions.
