Flew home for the extended weekend on July 4th to put together the engine for this.

The diagnosis:
One failed phaser
One bent valve (may of occurred after said phaser removal)
Oil bypassing the rings into the cylinders (I didn't replace the rings last time and they looked like they had lost their springy-ness and weren't clocked correctly on the pistons)
The bearings looked good to me for a 25000 mile engine, none looked really gouged, but my step dad helping me with the prep work thought they were shot and had the crank ground, oh well she got some new bearings

Started off by prepping the work space.

Took a bit, but was able to get a trailer on its side using only my engine hoist. Sucker was too heavy for me to lift myself.

Gave the cylinders a quick hone.

Cleaned out the bores and journal bearing surfaces.

Tossed in some new bearings and the ground crank.

I do like shiny new parts.

Cleaned the pistons a bit. (Still in progress in this picture, I was cleaning them in stages.)

New rings and dropped them all in place.

Phone died from 12 hours of music playing and I attached the heads.

Better timing kit this time with OEM phasers and cast iron adjusters like the older engines.

Step dad didn't realize the engine had aluminium heads and I didn't think he was going to wire wheel them, this took me a bit to get in a state where I am not as worried about the sealing.

Tossed the final covers on loosely and packed up the shop until next time I am down there.

Next time's chores:
A day of electrical replacing broken connectors and sensors.
A day of engine installation with taking the top and bottom covers off to re lube everything beforehand.
Drive the tits off of it.
Park it until I decide what to do with my shop stuff. If only shop space was less of a premium up here.

No, I plan on selling or trading the truck within a year and don't want to explain the concept of lockouts or have to reprogram the check engine light and explain that whole situation to them.
