$25 Starbucks gift card and a sixer of Torpedo Ale.

Delivered by hand to the phone guy at Dainese, for good customer service.

Well if you're gonna give em that, they should hear the story

So I bought that new airbag jacket a couple weeks ago... probably on the last page here or the one before it. Some of you probably remember I had already bought one around the end of last year. Because of that I did even more research on shit than normal to see if it was worth the upgrade... these things aren't cheap, no joke this jacket cost more than most of my bikes have, and the Gen 3 had to have some serious improvements over my Gen 2 to make that justifiable (it does, go buy one).

Unfortunately Dainese doesn't put out a ton of info on their products, they seem to mostly ride on their name and reputation (which, to be fair, does speak for itself rather well). Even RevZilla doesn't have one of their famous product review videos up for the new Gen 3's yet.

So, I called the Dainese stores... there are 7 in the US (Nevada store isn't open yet), and I called every single one of them.
New York, Orlando, and Chicago didn't know fuckall about the product.
Seattle kept me on hold longer than I had patience for.
The other two stores in California were complete douchebags... weren't confident in the answers they gave, lied about stuff when they didn't know the answers, and were super pushy about buying it from them and then got butthurt when they found out I wasn't (there's no D store in my state, RevZilla has a better return policy and 2-day shipping, and I had store credit to burn there... the fuck you expect me to do?).

The dude at the LA store was fuckin great. Knew exactly what I was asking about, had legit answers for shit, and was super friendly. Personally owns and regularly rides with this jacket and was willing to tell me what he didn't like about it. If there was something he didn't know, he'd say so and then go look it up. I spent well over an hour pestering him with questions over the course of a few phone calls and he didn't mind at all, and remembered me each time. And he gave zero fucks whether I was buying it there or not.

Then I bought the thing, and it fit bigger than I'm used to. Same size as my other Dainese jackets which do fit, but was too big in unusual ways (like it was mislabeled at the factory and was actually a size larger). So I called the guy again, and he actually pulled a jacket off the shelf in the size in question, took it out of the packaging, and measured a bunch of different areas on it for me to compare with while we were on the phone.

This fucking guy can't be making a ton of cash there, he works the phones at a retail job, and is probably used to answering basic "this-vs-that" questions and handling repair returns and such. Now here I am taking up hours of his life and making him take product down and measure shit and he's totally cool about it.

Anyways, I wanted to send him something to thank him for his time. Was texting Smoker and it came up and I asked if it'd be out of his way to drop by there as that store is roughly in his neck of the woods. Not only did he do it, but he put together a great thank-you gift for the guy AND made sure to tell management how great their guy is.
He said above that it was all my idea, but that's a load of shit. All I contributed was a quick summary of why the dude earned a thank-you, and didn't ask or hear anything about it until he texted me the other day saying it was done. The basic idea was mine, but the what and how was 100% him and he fucking nailed it.

So moral of the story, everybody please go rep Smoker for being an awesome guy. He very much deserves it.
..... then go get an airbag because I like you guys not-dead.

No need for an airbag jacket if none of my legal motorcycles are road worthy. I'll die the old fashioned way by rolling my three wheeler in the backyard and getting impaled on a branch I cut down but haven't burned yet.

While I've been to the D Store in SF and had decent luck, someone I know posted on a local forum about a shitty enough experience that I'm not sure I'll go there again

he called and asked whether they had a specific item in stock (didn't want to waste his time otherwise). he was told that yes, they did.

he drove down there, they didn't have it, and apparently the salesman figured if he got the guy to show up he'd manage to sell him something else

https://forums.bayarearidersforum.co...d.php?t=536151

other people chimed in and said they'd had the same thing happen

A steering damper dampens steering oscillations. If it starts to leak, it may become a steering dampener. There's no such thing as a dampner.

Not a recent purchase, but a follow up on one. I actually got this dust mask for Christmas and I've been using it on and off for the last 8 months.

I really like it because it works well, it's comfortable, and the price was good (under $15).

Look up Fightech Dust Mask on Amazon

I used it for cutting and sanding wood, media blasting, grinding and polishing. When I wasnt using it, I kept it in the bag it came in. It fits my face better than the 3M masks that have the vent flap and strong chemical smell. In fact the only place it doesn't seal properly is around my chin where my beard is, so I can't really fault it for that.

Check out the pics and you'll see what I mean.

So yeah I went over on the use of the filter... but not by much, and it came with 4-5 of them. Stuck a new one in today. It's a lot more comfortable to wear than my silicone half masks, I only use those for painting now.

That's pretty awesome. Looks like the nose inch thing will work better with eyeglasses, too. Have to check those out.
