Default Cold weather painting?

Probably a simple answer to a rather simple question but...what’s everyone’s method for painting during the winter?

Backstory: I have a 3-car uninsulated attached garage. No ceiling or wall covering (just rafters and framing). The garage stays 5-10° above outside temps (high 20’s to mid-30’s). I need to paint an engine fairly soon. I have a propane torpedo heater and a halogen work lamp for heating the parts if needed. I thought about painting the smaller parts in my basement but don’t want to deal with the residual fumes plus painting near a gas furnace and water heater probably isn’t a good idea.

Anyways, any suggestions or advice?

Later, Doug

Find someplace else if you want it to last.

Or, plan to run that torpedo heater for a long time. You need to bring the parts themselves up to temp, hold them there while painting, AND maintain temp while the paint cures.

65-75F & dry is the best environment for paint. Figure out what it will take to get your work area in that zone for 48-60hrs and then you have a shot at doing a quality spray job.

Think the answer is a whole lot of insulation and radiator or two then. Or maybe mcguyver a tent with a small heater attached, pretty much a grow tent.

Living in a seasonal climate can make building and living in general tough sometimes!

Here in NY I deal with 90-100+F with 60-90% humidity in the summer and 6 months later we're below freezing for weeks at a time. Usually dip into the teens and below 0F for a week or 2 in Jan/Feb. It's pretty rough getting things done sometimes as good weather is hard to come by.
