That's what I was thinking too. the seat should come up slightly above the tail fairing lines.

Y'all shut up before he rips it all apart and throws it away!

Seriously, it looks awesome. A small pad of racing foam in the area Seb is talking about would keep your jeans from scratching paint up.

Yep, that was the plan in my head from early on-that little step is going to get blended a little and was gonna do a bit of a butt-pad, probably racing foam or whatever other similarly dense stuff I can find with a bit of the same pattern vinyl over it. Thought maybe breaking it up into two or three smaller pads in a cool pattern/shape might add a little visual interest there too.

I may also shave that face back to a slightly shallower angle-now that the seat itself is in place I can sit on it and see if my ass needs more room back there. It's pretty steep visually-it doesn't bother me a lot but I think it'd probably look better dished back a little bit further.

I laid some glass over the top side of the buck today, just to sort of 'lock it in' because just from handling the foam was starting to get sorta 'soft spots' and little wrinkles in the edges and stuff. Just one layer of what I think of as 'regular' cloth - stuff you can buy in autoparts stores. Gonna smooth that down tomorrow and think about next steps. Have some ideas percolating.

Thinking I will do a custom light pipe style tail light/signals with acrylic and LEDs - someone on here did the same thing a while ago, can't remember the guy's name. Maybe it was imsolidstate. Kinda funny-I must have spent $2-300 over the course of several years buying tail lights, parts of tail lights, LEDs etc trying to figure out what I wanted to do. Most of that stuff went in the trash.

More glass glass glass.

Sanded down a bit with a block. There are a few low spots including one where the foam melted slightly, but it's very small. I filled it with a mix of resin and finely chopped fiber strands before the next layer.

Filling one such low spot. Note high-tech applicator tool. (Worked bitchin tho)

Second layer going on, split down the center. This layer only goes over the top/sides and mostly skips the forward-side portion, because as previously stated as I build that area up I'm going to mold it right in on the seat.

This is how I left it-3rd layer in the form of a stripe going down the center join and resin brushed over the last layer because it was a bit dry. No problematic bubbles or gaps or weird lifted spots though, pretty optimistic. Sat on the bitch today for a minute and I don't HAVE to adjust the 'face' of the seat, but I still think a shallower angle will look a bit better. Simple enough to trim it back even at this stage and just glass it in. Undecided. Since I CAN so easily do it even when the part is mostly finished I'm going to hold off.

Been a few days since I took photos because it's just been add a layer of glass, wait for-fucking-ever for the resin to cure (60-70 ish degrees in the shop with the stove running, and I always forget to keep my resin stuff close to the heat when I'm working) sand add a layer of glass repeat. I think I'm done with glass on the outside-there's three layers of cloth on the whole thing, more in some places that I needed to reinforce or wanted to add to - so I'll bore you with it all in one post.

Same boring angles, but now from further away!

This was this morning, after checking that the final one-piece layer was cured nicely. It fits pretty nicely-still haven't tuned in the lip against the seat. Probably do it with finer-chopped mat when I do. Very springy-stiff in the 'arms'. Edit: Thinking about it, I may build up and profile the top surface of the arms by a quarter inch or so when I finalize them-it'll be getting pushed on/whacked with leg/boot on dismounts etc so a bit of ruggedness there at the cost of a few oz seems worthwhile.

Sanded with a block a bit. 80 and 120 grit, trying to avoid creating sharp edges at the transitions.

Brushed a thin coat of resin over the part after all the sanding, partly to fill slightly so I can finish sanding it flat and partly to seal any areas of exposed glass from the sanding.

Tomorrow I'm going to have a go melting the foam out of it and see what kinda shape I'm in. Probably going to reinforce the inside of the arms with some chopped mat at the least, possibly do some reinforcement of key areas in the tail proper as well.

I'm pretty pleased with how it's going. The layers of glass smoothed out the sharper edges nicely and the shape is pretty much the blend of curves and angles I had in my head. There's some stuff I'll change up next time around but it's looking good.

bikes looking good, like the shape of the seat unit too.
for me though, the top of the seat ruins it, its very square!
i reckon it would improve it massively if you rounded off the top left and top right corners and add the curve into the seat unit (the 90 degree cutouts for the seat)

bit like these seats

of course this is only my opinion but i think it'll help massively
keep up the good work!

Coulda sworn I posted these, but apparently not.

Melted the foam out of the part a couple days ago. I had intended to use acetone but I left it at the house, sooo... Motul Contact Cleaner works a fuckin treat I tell you what. Kills the styrene foam deader'n shit, doesn't even faze the urethane pour foam.

Chopped/gouged/carved out as much of the pink stuff as I could between spritzing with contact cleaner.

Wire wheel took most of the glazing compound etc off the inner surface no issues. Burned through slightly in a few places enough to muss the first layer of glass, nothing major. Inside is going to get a layer of chopped mat anyway.

Put foil over the seat to keep the resin off, added some chopped mat and resin to build out the corners of the seat cutout.

Pour foam added in the corners. That's how I left it, burned up a bunch of my time at the shop today fixing barn plumbing for my mom.

Probably won't be back out to the shop until Christmas day, but the plan is to sculpt the foam into a nice angled curve on each side. I'll be test-fitting my ass against it continually so I don't end up designing myself a poke in the ass with a fiberglass stick.
