Default 79 CB 750 cafe project

Hey everyone,

So as I wrap up my gsxr k1 project it's time to start this cafe build. So I picked up the orange CB (pic attached) as the Donor along with this black CB parts bike for $400 for the pair. Primarily I wanted the rear wheel off the black piece of shit.

So the general plan is to build a brat style cafe, hoping to include a gsxr or r1 front end. Electrics will be replaced by Moto gadget m unit blue that includes a keyless ignition. Ideally the bike will be as minimalistic as possible in regards to controls and switches.

I'll post up some pics when I roll them into the hanger and start stripping and chopping.

lol i'm not surprised. She's testing the ride height to prove me wrong that she wont be able to ride it. Shes got herself a little 250 ninja but i'm convinced this would be a better fit for her once its done. until either of the bikes sell that is lol. Hopefully i'll get the rest of the season with the gixxer.

Welcome to CF. I love these bikes. The tanks on these things make cafe setups challenging to pull off. Interested to see what you come up with.

The Bikes to be built for me primarily so no real problem. once its got the thinner seat and likely lowered stance all around she'll be able to touch just fine, and then hopefully use it some of the time. I've been a big fan of the Cb's for a while now particularly these later DOHC models. The tanks are a bit of a pain so i'll be cutting the tabs off the sides of the tank if I cant find a better one to swap on.

Ok so after a lengthy delay getting to this CB project as I was to busy riding and such its time to get this under way. Unfortunately the temperatures here hover around 0 now and intermittent snow is a reality. Luckily I've got a warm spot to work and I can continue to update all you folks on this build. So to be clear the plan for the bike is pretty simple, Café/Brat style 750 with all the wiring redone, carbs tuned up. simple refresh of the motors seals and rings (assuming the head and valves pass inspection) a rework of the tail section and geometry between the forks and the swingarm to level it all out and so on. Ignition system recently arrived and includes all my wiring and the Motogadget setup to use my phone as my key now. New hand controls to be mounted on new clip ons are also here. The remaining bulk of the parts are still to be ordered. Think ive still got an 06 gsxr master cylinder for the brake up front also.

So that out of the way I built a quick work station and got to removing all the junk on it. Pictures below show it as I pulled it in on Friday and then as I left it today when I finished working on it. Swapped the 17" wire wheel onto the back, removed all the junk, detabbed the bulk of the frame but still have some grinding left to clean that up, centre stand got taken out and now i'll have to start cutting up the sub and reworking the suspension to level the bike out.

and the last couple as it sits for today including one bonus for some laughs that I found in the old wiring while gutting it out.
