Default Should i or shouldn't i

Hi guys, ive had a couple of bikes in the past, yamaha 125 and cbr600 not had a bike for a few yrs now, always wanted to go down the path of picking up a old bike and turning into a fighter.

Im ok at taking things aparts and getting them back together again but what i dont want to do is get a bike and be in over my head.
I dont have stackes of money to pay people to do stuff either.
What i do have available is a uncle who is a welder and a friend who paints.
Im not looking at a super sexy fighter for now but just somthing like a diversion or bandit, something that already has the upright position thats i can pic up for 600 ish and learn with?

My question is how realistic is this for someome that has no motorbike mechanic experience?
Most ive done on cars is basic oil change etc.

Ive actually just seen a yamaha diversion 600 up for 550 starts and runs ok.
Thinking it could be a good start.
All id be looking to do is strip the plastics, front light, handle bar conversion.
Fatter rear wheel and a respray

Get the Divvy, make her yours. They are stupid simple machines and very easy to work on. Plus, everytime I see one get some work done on it, I want to work on mine some more.

That's kind of why this bike is appealing to me it does look quite easy to work on

I wouldn't really be looking at doing that much to be fair other than changing the front light and Speedo, fatter rear tyre or wheel, change of handlebars and a respray and a cleanup
