Default 3D printing fairing repair

a mate of mine droped his bike and asked if there was anything I could do.

figured it was the perfect opportunity to have a play with 3d printing again.

There is a portion missing and the part holds the indicator in place so needed to make sure it is strong enough to retain that job. It's not the prettiest but once it's epoxyed in place and a new decal put on be hardly noticeable. It actually doesn't need epoxy at all it's a self supporting insert and made of ABS plastic.

Just a concept I thought I would share, may not work but there you go. All cracks are drilled.

Please don't take offense, but I have some stuff I use that could patch that in about 15 minutes, I wouldn't really have considered trying to print a patch.

I did think that it would be super to print up a pile of the old school panel nipples - the ones Honda used on CB and VF (and I'm sure tons of other side covers) as they frequently get broken off and lost. My plan was actually to print a PLA shell and fill it with the stuff I mentioned before, it's a urethane bumper repair material that sets in 3 minutes.

Find me on Facebook at Sebspeed Customs

i can not take any credit for the printing, just the concept. that was done by my mate who's whole garage is set up for printing and air brushing. the idea was to be able to repair the parts that bolt on to the frame but this part came up from a mate who is currently out of action for an unrelated injury so was in no rush for it back.

edit; we have been playing with all sorts of uses for 3d printing with the bikes as my mate is also a keen builder too

interested in the filler/patch compound you mentioned, do you have a name?? its not something i do a lot of but was a fun idea using a bit of up and coming tech...

i'll update soon

oh and cost for the repair so far works out at pennies
