Default Carbs? And not the potato kind..

So after riding around last night.. Got some readings need some input..

Idle dead lean 18:1
Cruise was around 11.5-12+ a bit
Half throttle/6k it leaned out 14.5-15
Full throttle was round 12-12.5

Carbs have one size up pilots
2 shims on the stock needles
One size up on the mains
8mm float height vs 7mm stock.

I was gonna add another shim? Not sure if i should pony out for a jet kit.. Thoughts? Opinions?

needles will fix it. mid range is all needle function, not about the height when the needle disengages further from the main BUT rather the taper will feed a more atomized amount instead of blasting it rich with too many shims or leaning out in a certain range

CK and UF are on the money IMO. Raising the stock needles typically just moves the "richer" area of the needle lower in the rpm band, but it's still the same fuel curve.

I vote for more aggressive needles, too.

That is very lean at idle. You can adjust that a bit with the air screws, which should also make it start easier.

Needles should help as that lot said. Probably not worth planning anything else in til you've done the needles as you won't know which way to go. Different brands of main jets aren't measured the same, eg dyno jet aren't based on the same system as keihin. So if you get a dyno jet kit, the numbers on the main jets you get in there should be treated with care.

idle reading has to be wrong.. either sucking in air of just not enough air flow? i mean how can i go from 19 and idle to 11 at 1/8th throttle cruise...

Air screw too lean, pilot jet too rich.
