Default Ducati Monstrer S2R 800 - evolution

Hey folks,
I thought rather than boring all my friends with instagram posts of random bits of my bike, I should probably share what I'm doing with people that are actually going to be interested.

I'm calling this project evolution as that's what it's doing. It started about five years ago when I got the Monster.

First things I did were a tail chop and added a belly pan. But It still needed more

Next came the new seat unit and fairings, which meant changing the exhaust

Then came the rattle can paint job

I even tried some clip ons at one point

But the bike was looking tired underneath - which gets me to here, where I'm striping it down, cleaning and painting everything, then obviously rebuilding.

It's not always easy with Google images and hosting. I don't believe they allow direct hosting.

You can click the links now, but I think it's the best I can do.

I will try to get better at documenting my work - but I didn't get a good before photo of the throttle bodies - but they were grim, probably not been cleaned in years.

I'll figure out how to embed images at some point EDIT: There we go!!

A quick update, slow and steady progress

getting the old flaking paint out from between those cooling fins was a bitch, a combination of aircraft paint stripper, 120 grit sandpaper folded over a bit of sponge and a dremel with a wire brush attachment got it done in the end - just the other cylinder to do!

Also will brake cleaner be enough to clean any residue from the paint stripper off? I don't want to have the new paint blister and have to re-sand it all

I would finish it with denatured alcohol and some air. brake cleaner has other solvents that might not gas off right away. be a shame to have to paint it again.

I'd also get them hot before final prep to coax any left over residue out.
