Default Upper tree fork spacers

Anyone ever used spacers in the upper tree fork cavities to hold the forks?
Eg- the inner diameter of top tree cavity is 52 mm and the outer diameter at the fork is 51 mm, a fine spacer around the fork would allow the upper clamp (tree) to grip it.
Was wondering if something like this checks out safety wise. Cheers

I'd be ok running such a thing on the upper, but only the upper. The lowers take almost all the force, uppers just keep forks aligned.
