Thanks for that, I was worried that subtlely questionable piece of engineering slipped by in the glaring light of a design that's gonna wear faster than a normal headset.

Agreed... Those joints aren't really intended to be used like that.
I assume you mean lateral loading on a rod end? That should be well below tolerance; there's maybe 300 lbs on the thing static, and another 1200 dynamic would mean there's 5 g's slamming into the rider's arms.... that's a hell of a bump. Its not hard to find rod ends the size that can handle 1500lbs lateral load.

Brake forces, however, are gonna feed into the rod ends as radial loads... exactly what they ARE intended to handle.

I was actually really tempted to try this for my Hossack fork design, but couldn't find rod ends with enough angular motion (at least not ones that were better suited than even the rather over-sized ball joints I got).

Still, fatigue and failure can happen to any metal component. Also cornering while braking would introduce more complex forces.

As I said before...single point of failure.

Looks easy to swap front ends and would weigh less. If the MotoGP engineers aren't interested in this on prototype machines that are rebuilt continually, then there must be a reason why.

Obviously you can do whatever you want, but there's a reason why those joints aren't typically used in high lateral load scenarios.

Probably weighs more if you want to get the same stiffness and strength, and unless the bearings are really good you might have slop that leads to speed wobbles.

Much more "interesting" than "good". It may (probably does, as you noted its not common) work like crap in the real world.

Also the bearings assist in steering damping. They need to be torqued to a specific load and with these you cannot they are just free spin

I read the whole conversation after this post, but this is still the post I agree with the most. It may be engineered to work just fine but from a purely "gut instinct" point of view that shit looks sketchy as fuck.

Off-topic - damn I love this color scheme.
