I've been running an LFX14L2-BS12 on my SV1000 for several years. It's way smaller than stock and works great.

A steering damper dampens steering oscillations. If it starts to leak, it may become a steering dampener. There's no such thing as a dampner.

Bikes: naked SV1000 with all the possible bling, WR450SM street legal, 450XCF SM trackbike

Unfortunately Junkie, I've not got the finances to stretch to a floaty-light and teeny-tiny lithium battery right now, so going to have to try and find the smallest gel battery that'll suit the SV, hopefully at not much more than 30 quid or so. A lithium would be three times that...

Too tight a squeeze. New battery located but it's still sat on my office desk so not had a play with it yet...

So, in the meantime, I made up some brackets to hold the headlight fairing thingy, that was sourced from a bloke making them for the Honda Hornet race series.

And in place it looks like so...
Still got to properly fit it, just waiting on getting hold of some rubber Wellnuts to use for attachment.

The bellypan is a cut-down one off something - not sure what, maybe a late model Blade fairing or GSX-R Thou. Whatever it is, it needs more cutting down and fettling before its done...

Default Re: Hack to thrash

I'd got myself a pair of Racetech fork springs, and some fork valve emulators and new oil to do, so balanced the bike on a pair of axle stands under the footpegs (non-folding race rearsets) and a trolley jack under the crankcases, and worked very quietly...
Fork caps loosened when still in the yokes, forks out and set to to undo the damper rod bolt. The first one came loose easily enough with a 8mm spanner round the shaft (snigger) and another spanner looped over the arm of the ball-ended Allen key, but the second already had a bit of damage to the allen bolt and there was no way that a ball-ended key would get a purchase. After a search through the drawer of many allen keys, there wasn't another 8mm one.
So, one fork leg stripped down, and the slider cleaned of the crappy ultra-thick brush-painted finish.
