Default 08' Ninja 250 - My first bike *Pic Intensive*

Welcome all to my build page...

This is my first bike/first time getting screwed over by craigslist/first fighter. Long story short, I ended up paying $1,400 for this bike and found out that it was crappily pieced together just to look decent enough to sell. So, I just said screw it and am "Fightering it out"!!!
Here's the link to my Picasa album with all my pictureshttp://picasaweb.google.com/101550461253933777663/Bike#

PS: Just throwing this out there, but I have pretty much zero mechanical knowledge

Basics - 08' Ninja 250
Here she is when I first got her

Front fender was being held on by 2 of the 6 bolts available... A theme i unfortunately found out carried throught the rest of the bike. Plastics were probably held together by 40% of the screw/nuts/fasteners

Seat supposedly flew off when the seller delivered it and found out the tank was dented to shit and the guy had tried to putty over the dent and painted it

5,2XX miles

No cover on the rear brake reservoir, so possibly air in the lines

Looks like something used to go in that bottom hole... Not sure what it was tho

Whole 2 piece tail fairing was held on by one little screw!

At this point I rode it for a bit and noticed a couple of issues:
Bike felt like it was pulling a little, possibly because the back wheel wasn't put in straight *pictures to come*
Throttle tube is a little sticky *heard just swapping the tube will fix it*
The exhaust smelt like it was running super rich *plan on rejetting and syncing after mods anyway*

So without much knowledge and relying soley on my want to get my bike on the road I decided to start stripping her down and worried about figuring everything else out as I go... So please don't flame me too hard if I ask a million questions or make an ass load of noob mistakes.

$1400 isn't a bad price for a beat up $3500 bike. If it runs well then at least you don't have to worry about that.

I just picked up an 09 ex250 with front end damage for $2000. I bought it knowing I would be removing / cutting up the broken farings anyway so I guess I was less shocked than you were. The missing brake res cap is a trip. How does that happen???

Anyway, feel free to ask questions if you can't find the answers via searching. I'll be figuring out shit on the same model so hopefully I'll be able to help with little details, seeing as mine has all the bolts ;p

Default Day 1 & 2 - Stripping her down

DAY 1
Stripping her down

After riding the bike for a bit, I started feeling uncomfortable with the way it was pulling and decided to start stripping her down.

Crappy front fender comes off

Strip off the front fairing? and headlight assembly. Notice the attempt to glass the broken part up top...Fail, hence the puddle of water that came out of it

Darkness soon fell upon me so I put her up for the night... I really do need to clean out my garage

DAY 2
Stripping her down pt. 2

Come home straight from work, cleared my schedule for the evening... Time to DW

Beginning of the day

Seller decides not to be a complete d!ck and brings by some extra parts he had laying around for the bike... Some of which I plan on using like the front tire and original rear sprocket

Got most of the plastics off and I'm starting to see her inner beauty

Exhaust and gauges come off

Here's the deal with the rear tire, reference the two pictures for the position of the markings on the swingarm and I think the tension? is off

Found a screw in the tire, so gotta get a new one of those. Will swap out the sprocket and even of tension? when I do that. Hopefully that fixes the "pulling" issue

Undertail & Battery removed... pretty much all I could do at that point for lack of tools and build vision

That was it for last night, I need to get a die grinder or something to start cleaning up the frame so I went inside to try and plan out my build.

Looking forward to see what ya do with it, I don't think ya got to bad of a deal, most of that crap is cosmetic and useless anyways, as long as it runs good the rest is easy.

@Bob, let me know if you need anything you see in the pics. Most of it will be unused and going up for sale probably.

Yeah, that rear tire is really out of sync in adjustment that would cause the pulling. That subframe is really small, ya can put just about any tail ya wanted on there. I bet it will be a fun bike to ride when ya get it all sorted.

Don't think I'll be needing any of it. Mine is pristine from the tank back and I chopping the front up to look more like a Z1000, so I should be ok

Thanks for the offer though. It's funny that there hasn't really been a new gen ex250 build here yet and just when I finally get my grimey hands on you, you get one too.

Definitely save your plastics. Until you are done. You never know what you might need.

I'd leave the stock tail on too, I think it looks really cool!

I'm gonna post this under the help forum, but does anyone have ideas or experience with hooking up gauges for a bike with a cable speedo? I don't want to use the original ones.
