If you come to the fronts and find rusty pistons or other faults that make them no good, just fit the whole setup off a 929/954/600rr. Fits right up, improves performance, has alloy pistons that can't rust.

Good to know on the calipers.

It is usually quiet at work on Fridays so I took a few extra minutes for lunch to swap the main jets and throw some fuel in it. It actually runs really good, I almost don't want to mess with the spark plugs or valve lash until it is closer to being on the road. Intake ports look good too.
Jetting right now is 1.5 turns on the pilot. 40 slow jet. 122 mains.

Did some more work on it yesterday afternoon. Got the tail light and rear turn signals wired up. Still need to make a gauge/headlight mount. I would like to put a small gauge on it but also want to see it turn over after it hits 100,000 miles.
Current list looks something like this:
-Muffler bracket
-carb float valves(over flowing)
-tires
-front turn signals, gauge, headlight mount
-battery hold down
-paint wheels, radiator, tank
-radiator cap(rotted)
-valve adjustment
-spark plugs

High levels of butchery going on lately. I don't have the time nor the desire to make it pretty. Doing the wrong thing the right way has been the name of the game with this one. All the electrical connections are soldered and shrink tubed but no connectors. Brackets are all plenty sturdy but ugly... Carb floats fixed themselves after sitting in fuel. I need to figure out the flasher relay then I will get it registered and probably hurt myself.

Will trade this thing for a low mileage, complete XR650L engine....

do you need a brake & light inspection due to salvage or something? in most cases CA doesn't do any inspection.

A steering damper dampens steering oscillations. If it starts to leak, it may become a steering dampener. There's no such thing as a dampner.

No inspection required. It is currently on non-op. I want to fix the blinkers first because the cops around me have nothing better to do. I need a red reflector for the rear too. Makes it easier to get away with it being sketchy if it all works.

For sale if anyone wants it. Need the space and have no desire to finish it. Having too much fun on my dual sports. Registration is ready to transfer, just got the pink slip.
Make me an offer.
