After a good bit of searching I wasnt able to find any threads discussing this topic, so figured I'd bring it to the collective.
Is there a way to add OBD to an older (1978 Kaw) analog bike?
Ive been seeing a lot more apps pop up for the android OS like Torque, RealDash, Dashlink, that are basically digital dashboards that you can customize to your liking.
Im not looking for anything crazy, I simply want to be able to take my electronic ignition signal and speed (via GPS speed module) and output it via OBDII. Im fairly well versed in electrical, but OBD and CAN are new to me, and Ive been reading up a storm and researching how they work but cant seem to find a solution that doesnt involve building and coding my own Pi module, which is admittedly over my head.
From what Ive been able to read and understand, I would need to collect the signals via CAN module of sorts, then find an OBD module that can take the CAN info and output it properly; Analog Signals --> CAN --> OBD --> Gauge App
Is this correct? Or am I forced to use some sort of ECU? I realize there are setups from AEM and Holley that can handle everything in one handy unit, but $1500 is a bit out of my price range.
Anyone looked into this kind of black magic before?
