i have to get lye from a candle store...

cant buy it in the drug store.. even in drain cleaner... but you can buy sodium hydroxide from a candle shop.. no idea how it works.

Most oven cleaners have lye in it, too. As an added bonus they are also usually foamy, so the stuff clings to the part while it works.
