Default Tech Heads Engine Formulae 4 strokes

Just found this and found interesting if not a wee bit over my head!

I asked God for a streetfighter but I know God doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked God for forgiveness! My x-wife said the last thing she wanted was to hurt me, but it was still on the goddam list!

Default Re: Tech Heads Engine Formulae 4 strokes

Most of them are fairly basic math, derived from the definition of the terms used.

IE, horse power is pressure x area (force) x piston stroke (distance) x number / minute, times some constant to jiggle the units down. A few might be useful when actually building an engine from scratch, but most have little application to custom bikes.

However, the one for Exhaust Systems Tuned Length looks good:
Lt = (Eo x Vs) / N
Lt is the tuned length, in inches
Eo is the exhaust-open period, in degrees
Vs is wave speed in feet per second (1700 ft/sec at sea level)
N is crankshaft speed, in RPM
Pretty simple, longer exhaust open or lower RPM means you need longer pipes. Also means that for the same exhaust open period and tuned RPM, the same pipe length works regardless of displacement or pipe diameter (within reason - high pressure in the pipe could change wave speed).
