I found my way here from the FOTM thread. Amazing work - thanks so much for sharing.

I'm curious - if you didn't do the motion studies in CAD to know that it would dive under braking, then what was the geometry based on? It looks too meticulous to think that you would have just eyeballed stuff.

What would Smoker do?

I don't know what he used, but I used Tony Foale's "Funny Front End" program for my own build. It calculates and graphs anti-dive (also trail and wheel base and rake) vs wheel travel for you, and also can calculate wheel travel vs spring force for a variety of suspension setups (including linkage styles). Well worth the money, and MUCH easier to use than a drawing based CAD program.

Thanks for the props... much appreciated!

In the CAD layout, I control the amount of rake and trail in a static position. If I had more time would have simulated the motion through suspension travel. As Seb mentioned, Tony's software is ideal for these types of studies.... but my version crashed and I haven't been able to re-activate it

Hello all. Sorry for the long silence. As some of you know, I was in bad accident about 2-1/2 months ago (hit a deer while riding my SXV5.5). I destroyed my right arm pretty bad (broken elbow, broken shoulder, 6" laceration down to the bone on my forearm, etc). Then followed by the holiday season and now trying to finish a big house (shed) project. I'm finally riding again (arm is functional, but still going to require months of physical therapy).

Anyway, I wanted to post a quick update on the Dirty (Dirtbag) Rat RZ350 project.... I am excited to announce that the bike has been invited to The One Motorcycle Show in Portland next month!

For those who have not been, this is one of the best shows for custom bikes in the country right now. Highly recommend attending if you can. I have friends that will fly into Portland just to attend the show for a day... it is that good!

If you can make it, please ping me and we can grab a beer

Wow! Crazy news! Glad you’re on the mend, we know you’re more than able to rebuild the bike!
