Trying to sort out the rear shock mount location, I figure seeing as Iím using gsxr shock swing arm and linkage then I should set it up to the same travel/ratio parameters, being 130mm rear wheel travel and 65mm shock stroke.
To do this I made a dummy link from some old rig wire the same length as the gsxr dog bone, with this I could experiment different bottom linkage positions.

Next I used a piece of the same wire with two marks on it, one the shock length at full extension and one at full compression, put a loop in the bottom to attach to the bottom shock mount.
Next I set the swing arm to where I wanted full droop (same height as the bandit arm) and used the extended shock mark to draw an arc on som white card, next lift the swing arm 130mm and use the fully compressed mark to mark out another arc, the theory is that where the two arcs intersect is where the top mount needs to be.

This is using the bottom mount (centerstand)

Cleary this wonít work, the intersection would be too far forward, next Iíll try the top original mount

Not too bad, time to start cutting again!!

I cut it twice and itís still too short

Picked up some gsxr750 forks, bottom triple, r6 calipers/master and some gsxr600 wheels.
Pressed the bandit stem into the gsxr triple and gave it a light sandblast at work last night.

Looks the part, just need to get or made some fork tube extenders, make up some steering stops and make some spacers for the calipers.

Sometimes although not totally productive, sitting it together like this can help give a glimpse of what it will look like, seems to help with motivation. Still need to make rear shock mounts and a panel under the tank to mount the cdi/fuses.

Bottom linkage mount

Some reinforcing

Top shock mount

Welded with a reinforcing plate put in the back, I need this to be strong!

All of this steel plate funnily enough came from a smallish chocolate conche, they were the old beater blades destined for scrap, theyíve been really handy over the years, gate hinges, hf antenna brackets, good stuff.

Mock up time again, needs fork extensions maybe...

Yea I knew the gsxr forks would be 40mm shorter than the original ones, and considered briefly making the back end a little lower to save running a stepped yoke or fork tube extensions, I didn’t end up doing that due to possible clearance issues, I’ve made the back end height the same as what it was with the bandit swing arm when it was running a 94gsxr shock (about 20mm higher than stock), just means I’ll have to get some fork tube extensions.
Also the gsxr swingarm is about 25mm longer than stock so may not wheelie as well

I cut it twice and itís still too short

problem with fork extensions is they can push the locating dia of the legs out the bottom yoke, so need a stepped bottom yoke ,
