Re: July 2018 FOTM Entry Thread
Well shit. Not so much a fighter as a rescue UJM.
1990 Kawasaki Zephyr 550 (ZR550) that I bought as a neglected non-running POS.
I've put way more time and dollars into this than it will ever be worth, but I like the little bastard and it's got good lines.
Modifications, near as I can remember:
EBC rotors, HEL lines, rebuilt calipers painted gold, because, well gold.
In the gold theme, gold chain and Supersprox rear sprocket.
Forks rebuilt with progressive springs, Race-Tech emulators, and W650 preload adjusters
Rear shocks are Asian market ZRX400 units rebuilt with KX85 parts, springs got a fresh coat of black powder.
Renthal lows with the same cheap eBay levers everyone buys...
EX650 master cylinder, because it had the right bore size and a bigger reservoir
Painted Emerald Green Metallic
Every single rubber part replaced, engine mounts to side panel grommets, some had to be sourced from Japan.
Damn near all the fasteners replaced with NOS, stainless Allen heads, or cleaned up to almost respectable levels.
NOS switchgear, I refurbished the gauges by polishing out the glass, repainted the housing and replacing what parts I could still buy.
Carbs rebuilt and rejetted, stainless fastners, clutch basket rebuilt with custom Viton dampers from TurboSteve
DanMoto GP muffler from a 636 adapted to the stock header
Rear axle machined to accept gold eccentric adjusters from a Z1000, you know, because gold.
Swing arm powder coated metallic silver along with the rear brake arm.
Bunch of sanding and polishing to get various engine covers and header up to par, along with a Moriwaki ignition cover I sanded and "patina-ed" to match the other covers.
Really most of the work has been more on the restoration side of things. Sadly even with all the money and time I've spent on it, it's a rider and not concours... More of a 5 footer...
The bike as I bought it, all rattle canned black and wouldn't start, but at least it had a clean title...
