This will likely be a slow moving project, but thought I would put a build thread anyhow. I brought it home this morning, and here is how she looks.

Then I had to go do that stupid work thing for a few hours. Came home, ate dinner, and headed downstairs. 30 minutes later it looks like this.

As you can see it has heated grips, and a 12-volt outlet installed. Those are coming off ASAP. As I was pulling off the fairings I found how they wired them in, and let's just say I'm not happy about it. Plans thus far are chopping off the rear fender, installing an integrated tail light, something with the exhaust, removing the rest of the front end, likely some dirty bars. First things first I gotta get the damn HP restriction removed, change the battery, and the front tire. That's all for now:rock:

Spent another 30-45 minutes on the bike last night in my efforts to pull the carbs. According my service manual I have everything disconnected and the carbs are ready to come out, but they are not budging. I think they are just really wedged in there between the rubber on both sides. The air filter on this thing was FILTHY. Anyhow here is the state it is currently in.(Sorry for bad cell pic, not much to see anyhow)

I have a question about pod filters I was hoping someone might be able to help me with. If I put pods on here and get rid of the airbox since that thing is a huge pain in the ass, would I have to rejet now? Currently it has the stock pipe, and will the pods make such a huge difference I will have to rejet? I would rather wait until I decide what I'm doing with the exhaust, and rejet then.

I was reading up on a discussion of pod-type filters, and it seems you will definitely have to rejet, and even then it may not run right. Give me a few minutes, I'll see if I can dig it up.

Edit: Ahh, Here we are. Looks like CV type carbs dislike pod filters, due to the need for a common vacuum amongst all the intakes, as supplied by an airbox. Not sure what kind of carbs you ZR7S has though.

More progress today. Got the carbs out, and removed the restrictors. For those interested in how this particular bike was restricted they just put these little bastards in the intake after the carbs

Lots of work for something so simple.

Once I got the carbs back in I decided to investigate removing the 12-volt outlet. I was pretty displeased with how it was all wired up once I got into it. Then I learned it was wired in with the heated grips. I was even more pissed when I started getting into that. I traced the wires from the battery up towards the front of the bike, and found this. What could this wonderful little electrical tape gift wrap hold?

Well Luckily it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. I figured it would be a mangled mess like the rest of the wiring near the battery, but I was wrong.

And here is all the wiring I pulled out. from the heated grips and socket. There is still more, but I can't remove it all until I get some new grips.

So decent progress made today. Achieved what I was looking for by getting the restrictors out.
I think the next thing I'm going to do is replace the bars, and grips. Any suggestion on bars?
