I had a 99 r1 and if you want to do this swap you're going to have to cut the subframe off and have a new one tig welded on. The subframe on the 98-02 r1s are part of the main frame that's why when I wrecked my 99 r1 they totaled it because the subframe was broken in like 6 places so technically the main frame was shattered. If you do it either have a pro tig weld you up a new subframe to fit the new tail and weld it to the frame or if you have those skills and tools do it yourself but unless you just have 4 tabs tig welded on you're going to have to have a whole new subframe tig welded on to the main frame.
Personally I'd go with having 4 tabs welded on so you can weld up a steel subframe that you bolt on for the new tail. It'll be a bitch either way unless you have a tig welder or a friend with one. I don't know your tool set or skill set but the tabs would be easier IMO.
