Wife wants a bike we can both ride, and a friend won this sportster last year in a radio contest. He doesnt ride and has been trying to sell for new price...I can get it quite a bit cheaper. It currently has 14.3 miles on it. Im a little worried about 2 up on it, especially since neither me nor the eife is small...call it 500 pounds of ass between us. Any experience or opinions?

you will not 2 up on an 883 unless you are both 100lbs but even then..

the 883 has a power ratings similar to the xs650.

only way it would work on the highway is with a 1200 kit.

I dunno. My mom and dad used to ride all over the place on his CB 750. Pretty sure an 883 will have way more torque then an old CB

an inline 4 and a vtwin are very different in power delivery. If you look at horse power numbers the 750 is probably on par if not higher than the 883

From 1969 until the sohc CB 750 ended in 1978 ,they ranged from 69 HP up to 76. But they don't have near the torque of a twin. IIRC, they were right around 40-45 lbs tq. If you can two up with 45 lbs tq on a 500+ lb cb750, I'm sure an 883 will do just fine. Hell, people used to ride cross country on 350 's. But I guess that was before peoples dicks got too big to be on a sub 1000 cc bike :D

An 883 Sportster makes 43hp & 55ft lb's of torque. Back when I was really layed up the wife took me for a ride on her 883 and it pulled my 200lb butt around with no problem, and that was with taller gearing. 2 teeth up on the trans sprocket.
