I have always loved the Bandit line of bikes, especially when naked. I grew up around stereotypical bikers (read Hells Angles and dive bar bikers) in my home town and family. So I have always had a bit of a soft spot for Harleys and old school choppers. My problem is that I like speed, lots of speed, in turns. Most Harleys are not known for that. I thought I wanted a Buell, but after having ridden one, I can say I wasn't too impressed. I have wanted a motorcycle of my own for several years and now I finally had the funds and opportunity.
A good friend of my works as a motorcycle tech and came across a steal of a deal for an '03 Bandit 1200 with 96,xxx. The thing was smoking like Cheech & Chong. So we decided to tear her apart and see how bad off she was. Upon further inspection, we found only minimal wear and tear. Just bad rings and valve seals. Not biggie, right? Well, the cams were worn pretty good, thanks to the guy being well over due on an adjustment. Thanks Obama. Overall, not bad though.
The way I see it I put $3-$4K in her and she'll be faster than anything I can buy at that price. I'll try and keep updates coming often.

This is where I am at right now. Building up funds for some more goodies. I still need to split the cases and start tearing the bottom end apart. Should be getting on that here soon.
Right now I am cutting/cleaning/modding bits on the frame. 96k of year round ridding in Cali will put a little rust on ya. Nothing that a little rotary tool and paint won't take care of.

By the way, this 'lil Bandit is going to be a lot like the Millenium Falcon. She won't look like much, but she's got it where it counts. So please, no "add this baller part here or this bling part there."

I hope you guys and gals will enjoy watching her come along as much as I do. Stay tuned...

It's been a while since my last post, I apologize. Funds are a bit limited at the moment... planing a bachelor party and a few camping trips have ate away some money :(

Good work. Are you keeping the frame that color?
In response to your question. Most likely there will be very little if any of the original color on this bike. I don't really like it and there is fair amount of rust here and there....

In the process of cleaning up and streamlining the frame...

Cleaned and painted the ends, I will plug them eventually. The paint is just to protect the bare metal

You can see in these two how bad some of the rust is...

After a lot of work with sand paper and a dremel....

I should just get my media blaster out and strip it all.... SOOO messy though...
I should have nice engine porn in about a week :metal:
Stay tuned
