I enjoyed and was very pleased with the bike that I built last year in the 2019 build off, so I am throwing my hat into the ring to have another go.

The bike.

The plan, throw a shed full parts at it and hope something sticks.

The shed.

And what would a build off be, without a VFR, best intentions to all

I am in substantial awe of a couple of builds currently underway here at CF........

Leroys T.L is coming on nicely and is going to look great,

Sebsmokers swingarm is setting the bar to a new even higher high,
awesome design, awesome concept, awesome workmanship

There's also a couple of other builds warming up for hopefully a most excellant finish.

And then there is mine.

So I pulled the motor outa this

Whilst they were side by side the light bulb went off!!

V8 rear wheel drive independent rear suspension

Still have a few issues to iron out, how to join the two frames together, oh and a front end, steering, seating, controls, getting the motors in sync so it wont spin in circles...etc etc

Minor details but maybe enough to get back in the runnung:rock::rock::rock:

So I put a 2014 gen 8 engine into a 2006 gen frame.

I'll use the 2006 gen 6 throttle bodies and ECM and see if it will work on the gen 8 motor.

The front wheel will need some spacers and fortunatelly the gen 8 wheel has 310mm rotors which are the same as the CBR1100xx rotors that I used on the gen 6 wheel.

Drilled out the inner bearing race so the the larger CBR 954 axle can fit.
Put some bearings in and I have a new front wheel.

Gen 8 vfr motor has 3 neutral type switches for the gear indicator display

I figure if I short then all together that they will one neutral light

Apart from the throttle bodies electrical connections, thats why I've used the original throttle bodies, the other electrical connections plug into the 6 gen loom.

The front sprocket on the 6 gen has the speedo drive and looks exactly the same as the 8 gen, thougt I would just make the speedo drive fit the newer sprocket cover...they look identical bar speedo drive......but they are not, pic pending.

I'll see if this things going to working before drilling out 8 gen cover.

I got the 8 gen motor to start with the 6 gen wire harness, ecm, throttle bodies
....and it runs:party-smiley:

It ticks over at idle and sounds ok, got a short video that I may up load

But......

After it had warmed up and I started to give it some berries it didn't sound right,
it would not rev cleanly above 9-10 thousand rpm's and when shifting up thru the gears it stalled between random shifts, particularly 5-6, I had all the neutrals shorted, I am guessing some timing changes between generations

Considered grafting the 8 gen wire harness and ecm onto this bike, but I would rather leave those two pieces of pie together for another possible project.and it has all this additional associated accessories, heated grips, self canceling indicators, ABS, traction control.

So I am calling it out of this years build off.... best of luck to all remaining.

Discovered coolant in the inlet of the previous motor...see new thread

cheers
