SO, a nice fellow (whos name i failed to get) came into my shop today with a question that caught my attention.

Hes Updating his Triumph Bonneville to a 'street-tracker' something similar to what we do. well. he's putting a 636 front end on the bike, and wants to run some dirtbike bars.

however. the 636s topclamp is not at all good for tag mounts. its machined to look all pretty and therefore has no good place to drill left. anyone know of a flat tripple that can fit on these that would be better to drill?

he doesnt want to pay $400 for a new tripple. what about welding a plate to the top of it?

the only 636 i've ever seen with db bars on it is a local stunter, and he's got a billet upper triple. if you got a talented welder to weld a flat plate across the top of the triple, then blended all the welds so it looked like it came that way, i think it would look pretty trick, especially for a street tracker, most of the dirt track bikes (especially the old skool stuff) had cast upper triples rather than machined, so maybe it'll give it a more nostalgic flavor with rounded edges over the crisp edges of a machined one?
