I'm looking to maybe get a Drag Specialties mini-speedo instead of a Koso gauge (speedo is about $100 less). But it's a cruiser part, and all the sites I go to ask for the same specs on the drive ratio. I know this has to do with gear drives and such on choppers, etc. But what do I put in for a '98 Bandit with stock gearing?

Here is one of the links:

Maybe this is simpler than I am thinking and I am just too effin' tired, lol. Any help would be appreciated - I can do a mini-speedo (black face) and shift light and off I go.

Possibly, but the mini-speedo is a lot nicer (found one with built-in idiot lights for $93), and a shift-light is $40 - the price of the Koso but with a shift light.

Besides, easy ain't fun :LolLolLolLol:
I dunno if I'd call mechanical drive "nicer".

Honestly, I'd call it shit. It's irregular, far from precise, and a waste of time.

Magnetic pickup is a LOT more efficient.

If you need an idiot light, you shouldn't be riding. ;) :D

PS: For what it's worth I had the same mini speedo/tach on my KZ. Lasted for a week before I resold them off to another person. The bulbs burnt out, the needle in one dropped and I had to take the damn gauge apart to fix it myself.... not worth it, and I wouldn't use them again.

There's a reason you can get them for next to nothing on ebay.

Thanks for the review, they did seem mighty cheap but figured they just weren't popular or something. Only idiot light I actually want is the one for the oil pressure, it's not the most accurate warning but it's something. The rest I can live without.

OK, so I've ruled out the Sigma as it's not illuminated and I doubt it goes into triple digits, the mini-speedos aren't worth all the hassle.. so Koso and a shift light it is.

Why not get an Acewell?

I've had mine for about a year and love it.

You can get it with an oil pressure warning lamp too.

I didn't know about the Acewells until I read about them in another thread, I am looking at all the models but I may not change out the gauges after all - the Demon fairing I bought is really getting on my nerves, lol (problem with the lights) - but after I put it where I wanted it, I don't think the bike looks so bad with the original instruments. And now I may just get another headlight altogther. I'll see what I do, but thanks all for the info.
