I'm taking the ignition out of my sv650, and i know to melt the red thread lock and i know to use a torx security t40 bit.

The T40 does not seem to be a very good fit however. is this normal ?

It isn't a very good fit in what way? Have you tried the next sizes up and down?

you are using a safety torx bit right? One with a hole in the center?

Yeah t40 security torx. thats the right size, i just wandered if there was another that had squarer ends on the teeth or somthing?

There are 2 different torx bits. The other is called torx 2 or something like that. And the difference is in fact the angle of the splines. Ive only ever seen it once though, on a newer road tractor

Yeah there are 2 sorts of torx bits as above, ive been caught out by that one myself

If you are removing the ignition & replacing it with something else do you know about the security diode ?
