in the september issue (most recent) of streetfighter mag, the cover bike is a hornet 600 (mostly). the dood who built it, did an exhaust setup under the bikes motor (a la buell). however it starts going towards the rear, but then U-turns toward the front wheel. the slipon is actually facing the front tire....

he setup a block off plate over the exhaust exit with a 1 or 2" gap between the pipe. this way the exhaust exits out the sides, and wind doesnt go down the pipe in the wrong direction.

the said result is supposed to be an amazing effect:

"essentially the revs build as you'd expect from such a lump, not bad, reasonably torquey and then around mid revs the engine inexplicably spins up in a total instant and is banging on the rev limiter like a nun in heat at the doors of of the monastary :)LolLolLolLol:) the bike revs through to the limiter even in top (gear)! in fact the power comes in so hard and fast its a bit scary"

it goes on to say that one of the owners friends has a K2 gixxer thou that he ran with:

"it becomes evident that no matter how hard his friend tried, he couldnt out drag the hornet to the ton, and they did try- every set of lights- and the bloke became increasingly pissed off and started accusing matt of having a blade motor on the sly..."

anyone know whats going on here?? how does this mod make a 600 hornet keep up with a k2 gixxer 1 thou????

:wtf:

you got a picture of the bike and the exhaust..? That sounds kinda wierd... Re-routing the exhaust wont make up for 400cc's and another 50-60hp. The only thing I can come up with is the air going into the exhaust might help back pressure, but even that wouldnt be much at high speed threw a 2" hole.. Or would it?

that looks really interesting. I was thinkin of tryin it on my fz-700. really nothin to lose. its hard to believe but what the hell.

what I think it is is basically the effect of a turbo, but by just making a turbulence induced vacuum. thus it basically sucks the exhause out the pipe. kinda hard to explain without a picture.

Yeah ive seen the feature, but when i actually see the bike go against a gsxr1000 and match it ill belive it!

if it is true then What a fantastic accidental discovery !! Mount yer tail can pointing forwards and then mount a plate infront of it at around an inch from the outlet and a hornet 600 is matching a gixer 1000 to a ton

The guy should patent that idea quickly cos if it works that good the big boys will be all over it as we speak

Here's a couple of pics of the said machine from the fighter show that i went to in aug!

I am not buying it, however with the air hitting it head on there will be a high pressure directly in front of it and a lower preasure as it passes over it thus creating a vacume of sorts so from a enginering side it is possible

^ yah thats what it said in streetfighter magazine. a sort of vacuum effect might be
"as the bike progresses forward colder air hits the front of the plate and, as it swirls past, creates a bit of a vacuum which helps to drag the warm gasses out of the pipe (and hence improve cylinder scavenging) and the faster the bike goes the more apparent it is- so in affect we have a system running the same physics as a blow thru turbo.....

it runs the original and standard carbs and airbox-and thats it. exhaust isnt tuned or anything."

Aside from the power, which I doubt, what does everyone think of the look?
I don't know, it's different which is nice as you see a lot of the same stuff out there. I'm not sure how I feel about the actual can he's using, but I do like the bend at the back of the exhaust. So, like most things, I like some things about it, but not quite everything! :LolLolLolLol:

i like it! usually i think a belly pan helps out to cover up the not so good looking lower portions of exhaust.

cleaning it up and making it look nice is another great solution!

agreed. i think its a cool design. no one else is running that style (yet), and hey if it does have an added power effect :metal: even better!

that's what I'm saying, there's only so much you can do with an exhaust, and somehow, now, years and years into the game, this guy found a new way! Shit, lke 2much said:

I like the look, I've been thinking of things to do with my exhaust and this may be it. There is very little possibility of the power gain, simply, if given a "turbo effect" or ANY increase in higher rpm power, the bike would require larger main jets to make it happen. And apparently this bike has no jetting. Like I said I still like that exhaust though.:D
