so i see a few of you guys using trek speedos and things like that.. i cant think of anyone specifically right now except tpd because of the fotm pics. a few questions.. will any of these units work, or just a certain few? will i not be able to ride at night because of no illumination, or are there some sold with a backlight? what do i do with my idiot lights, wire them to leds? and finally, installation is just like a bicycle i would assume?

If you want a Sigma BC800 you gotta hunt for one, they've been discontinued. Keep an eye on eBay.

To illuminate it you'll need a small LED pointed at the screen. They sell LED license plate lights that work perfectly and are pre-circuited.

ok great, thanks for the help guys, ill let you know if i end up going for one. if i find a small circular unit that uses the same drive i might just use that. ill have pics of my pile up soon, not much done for now. d/b bars, dual halogens, flat black rattlecan job, just mild stuff. the bike's 26 years old and it has less than 3,000 miles on it, its still responsive and it serves its purpose for what i need. i may upgrade soon, but well see

An Acewell 2700/2800 series gauge works great and uses a bicycle-style magnetic pickup, and is circular like you wanted.

Find the one you want on there, call their 800 number and ask for MARCUS. Tell MARCUS you're from Custom Fighters and he'll give you a deal.

Not all bicycle speedometers are useful for motorcycles. I tried one and it couldn't read fast enough to go over 40 mph, even though the gauge would theoretically go to 199. Also, the Acewell (and trailtech) are backlit and have idiot lights and such.

Any speedo will work fine. Find a local bikeshop and go look at some. They will have usually a very nice selection which offer different things.

The Trek goes into triple digits too which really really floored me when I looked down and saw 115. It really said 15 and had a small 1 infront of it.

I have ZERO complaints on it. It has a VERY large display and is very easy to read at night when you pass under a streetlight. I've never lit it because I don't care. It's just a "just incase" meter for speed incase a cop pops in behind me. :LolLolLolLol:

Personally, I find this hidious and the display looks nearly unviewable:

I'm running this which I prefer but that's just me.

As far as idiot lights and shit like that. Do whatever. I don't have any. I don't need any. I know what my bike is doing at all times just from the feel of it.
