So here it goes, first thread.

Easy was to say it: Build a Road going quadracycle like the Tesseract we all expect we could and should be having the opportunity to ride, then re-coup my expenses by making it commercial.

That sounds simple enough isn't it? Well two and a half years of investigation has led me to the point know where I am only just able to say that I'm starting the process in reality.

Boring details:
Hi I live in Australia. Rode for over 10 years up to my last bike a VTR1000, I always followed Streetfighters mag from the UK and at the time I gave up Motorcycling because I just wasnt doing enough of it I was still spending a lot of time gaming so hadn't found online forums like this one. Not a lot of Streetfighters were going round Australia then and only minimal shop work available and I was a gumby at my own work. I started to become ill and I gave up riding. 7 years of degenerative illness later its not going away so if I'm going to ride I need a bike that conforms to my capability. I decide thats a multiwheeler to a dont pop a leg off just because I over balance or anything at a standstill.

Didn't want to ride scooter because that wasnt my style and didn't want to ride a rigid trike that didnt bank because its either too much moving about on the bike to stay as neutral to lateral forces or too much on my neck/shoulders/arms/ core to hold myself rigid without going into detail, i needed a leaning bike.

The decision:
So I wanted to get back on the wheels it had to be a muliwheeler and I didnt want a scooter (cubes count for torque) and I didn't want a rigid trike. I always like to push the envelope so I did some correspondence with my local roads authority and got permission to build a motorcycle size on-road style quadracycle similar to the Tesseract concept. Yay! Who would have known that they would be the easy part so far.

The contenders: Got a concept drawn up in CS5 by an amateur just so I could show engineers the concept I wanted when talking to them on the phone and spent several years chasing the concept of building a leaning Spyder off and on.

(You'll have to imagine the tires as being rounded and not looking like Ute tires)

After several key conversations about the Spyders control system came to accept that was a really bad idea and took it back to square one.

SO I was kinda back to square one except that I hadnt given up on the idea of a quadricycle.

Went over some of my old links and contacted some of the guys that had leaning trikes lots of "why dont you do's...." instead of just listening and giving me what I wanted.

Then came across an updated site to a bike I had seen a couple of years earlier and they had decided to sell systems. First thing up on the page was a video of the bike doing Pikes Peake and I knew I was onto someone with more than half a clue.

Pikes Peake 2011

It did everything I wanted to do except have a 4th wheel. We'll a year of back and forth and a meeting of the minds and I had decided I was embedded with Tremoto, had been through an exercise of can we go commercial now and decided not quite yet, give it another year and another Pikes Peake on the new front end system for end user confidence testing, a few more builds so we have some more jigs and including my quadricycle under my own design house SpeKter Designs.

Now the excitement is really building::
Chosen Bike & Design renders due EOM Aug 2013.

Ultimately:
I hope to take you on an adventure over the next 2-3 years through the rise and rise of the creation of a new brand

3 must have specs:
- Best in class suspension system
- Must be 1m or narrower
- Must be 4 wheels

Nice to have:
- liter plus
- popular make and model for commercialisation
- Ergonomics to suit abilities of rider
- multi faceted design
- production ready looks

Yep a quad, on road. As soon as the design turns properly in CAD and there nothing patentable with that (and I doubt there will be but the front is definitely covered by patent) I will show you the design, theres no issue with that.

I have to take the design to my local Roads authority then and say, look heres what I was talking about and if they sign a piece of paper that yes if you bring us this vehicle and it meets the engineering standards and road registration requirements we'll register it for you and off you go, then I'll proceed to the build.

Hopefully it will tick all the boxes first go because all that will change in the mechanical structure of the bike is the suspensions anything else is either cosmetic or related to the function of the vehicle.

Dude, try to get a license plate and some road tires for this and call it a day. 100 times more fun, comes with a warranty and you can personalize it all you like.

You cannot put them on the road in Australia under general licensing and if I was going to I would do a SXS and last of all a straight axle quad.

No the only reason well perhaps two reasons is Im trying to do it as a road vehicle and they want to see what the outcome of that is like.

I dont' get why they call it a tesseract... Tesseract is cube cubed... A quadracycle is 2 squared.

Good luck with your goals. Looks like you've spent a lot of time looking in to this. I hope it pans out for you. Good luck and keep us posted, please.

Because it sounds cool and implies science and engineering used to take shit to the next dimension? And actually, a mathematical tesesract is a cube 'squared', if that actually has any mathmetatical meaning. Square > line segement squared, cube > square squared, tesseract > cube squared. Of course, for that to have an relevance, two wheeled vehicles would have to already be called "cubes"... which they ain't, afaik.

Yeah you're right, it's squared. I fucked that up.

Still, it's not what the name implies. My fellow nerds and I are pissed about it being misused. It's disrespectful. Or something. Yeah!.

Does OP realize that in most states, that thing he's trying to build will be registered as [and subject to the rules/laws governing] a car?

^Right? I love how folks from the states just blindly assume sometimes that other people are from here as well like everyone on all forums on the web is from the u.s. lol.

I'd imagine there's like some other even crazier contraptions rolling around the Aussie landscape that are perfectly road legal I'm sure.

OP lists no location and since /most/ of the people on the forum who actually participate are either from the US or UK, it's probably a safe assumption to make.

Excuuuuuuse me, Princesses.

Carry on.
