Convincing the brother to get a fighter

1773 Views 14 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  rubbersdown
So if you've looked in the classified lately you saw my little brother laid down his kz650. And right now were looking for another bike and he seems to think he wants a cruiser but there's not much in his price range(were trying to keep it under 2000 cuz that's what he has and doesn't have another ride so we need to find one soon)

So what do you guys think give me some arguments to get him into a fighter and what are some good bikes he should look into. So far I've found sv650, hyosung 650, yzf-600, and a bandit 600.

And go.

Sv is a good bike with lots of potential. I would look for a shadow 600 and put him on it...when he isnt happy and thats top of the budget start shredding craigslist. Put him on this site and have him scsn some photo galleries

My ninja 650 is pretty fun, but I'm biased. If you know why he wants a cruiser it'd be easier to sway him. If it's looks, you could show him some cafe styles or maybe look into a buell or older CB 919, vmax...etc. if it's ride/comfort then he may be suprised at what a standard would do for him. Ninja 650, N1000, etc.

i love your bike uf but right now he needs a ride to get back and forth to work so were kind of on a time crunch and hes just not got the mod bug like you or i do lol

also hes look for a cruiser because hes going to be riding two up with his girlfriend and want to be comfortable and he says he doesnt want a rocket because they hurt his back but he hasnt really ridden many bikes just his kz my fzr a few times and our other brothers z1000 once so i think i just need to get him in the saddle of some good bikes
Tell him to just go look at the SV or the bandit they are comfy and have lots of potential. If he brings the cash they'll let him test ride it and he will like it. If he is 25 years old or younger and gets on a rocket even a twin rocket he won't be able to say no
Maybe a sv650n?
Upright bars, round headlight. LOTS of potential.

The Ninja 650r looks good naked. Show him er6n as an example, but he won't find one that cheap. They also have VERY upright bars... so much that he'll probably want some a bit lower ($30-$60).

Here's my Er6n... Started out as a ninja 650r

You could just show him pics of chicks on the back of cruisers and then the chicks that ride on sport bikes.

And cruisers

I'd try to get it for $1500, maybe $1800 tops. been wrecked, tanks needs fixing, painting, and money invested in a better headlight.

money talks, but be friendly
so got him talked into it a while ago and this is what he got

but then this happened

so we were out bar hopping with some buddies and normally we only have a couple beers but somebody decided to buy some shots and you all know where that leads...

long story short he sideswiped me hard and at a good clip too as i was slowing down to turn...

i was fine but he broke his collar bone bad enough to need surgery and a titanium plate, it was an expensive lesson but neither of us will even touch a drink if were riding or driving anymore... it could have been a lot worse

but i digress, the yzf is now well on its way to being a full blown fighter with an mt-03 light and r1 forks, i may start a build thread once we get it on the road hopefully in the next week and then as we do the tail swap and swingarm swap to get a nice 180 and matching wheel outback

in its current state
