Hi,

anybody out there who has experience with Spondon or Harris frames
in to the US and legalize it for street use? I had a look over the Internet and
couldn't find any information about these custom frames in the US. I could not
even find a dealership for 'em over here who can provide me with informations.
To get a frame is not the problem, I know somebody who actually has one for sale,
it's just about legalize it in the US.

For everybody who is not aware what I'm talking about -> Spondon

I've only heard of one Spondon to make it state side. I do not know who or what it was for. Although, there are a couple ways of doing it. The quick and dirty way is if you already have a good title and are not planing on using the original frame, then problem solved. Stamp the Spony with those numbers and call it done.

If you want to go about getting a new frame number for it you will have to show recipts, pics etc for every nut and bolt on the bike. Take them down to the DMV. They more then likley have a form or 2 you will need to fill out for a Special Construction title. Once those are taken care of, you will need to make an apointment to have either the State Police or who ever takes care of Vehicle inspection come out and inspect the bike. At witch time you will get some more papers to take back to the DMV and they will issue a special construction title for it. Then you get to pay rediculously high insurance rates on it and enjoy.

I almost bought one used for about $3000. lol

Regardless of cost, you asked a question and your answer would lye within the Highway Patrol of your state. They handle stuff like that. It would not be hard as there are no "standards" for bikes. The title would just state "custom". Personally I'd roll with Scrapyards suggestion. Find a $100 shit box bike from the 80's and stamp it with that number. Pay cheap insurance.

Used to be a Company out of So Cal that stockes Harris Frames.
I sent for a catalog, Nice Frames but Ugly Ass Bodywork.
Can't remember the name of the company, but they used to advertise in Cycle World.
And YES it's Pricey, very Very Pricey.....

Some of them are SO hot. I dont really see the point in a $$$$$$$$$ custom frame for say, a 'Blade or a Gsxr or something of that nature. What I think is SICK is the ability to get modern sporty handeling out of legandary old engines. I'd kill for a spondon CBX or RG500

Seriusly, RG500 makes me wana jerk it

Spondon's are $8,000 straight from Sweary Bob. With the currency exchange, shipping and all that. But it's deffinatly a tastey bit of kit.

Once upon a time, Streetfighters USA was advertising them and Harris frames on their website. Then one day it all disappeared. Guess there wasn't enough interest.

heres a scam i know of that could of happened to a guy in the same town as me. could of because i want no one to know that i know about this, so this may or may not of happened. . i live in a town in indiana so this is how our laws lie. guy 1 is about to go into bankruptcy so buys a brand new zx10 on a bank loan at the dealership. he dissassembles it and hides everything but the frame since it is all that has a vin. repo man comes and guy 1 says theres your bike and repo man has no choice but to take it bankruptcy sucks for repo man. guys 1 sells all peices to guy 2. kawi frames are dirt cheap, a brand new zx10 unstamped is 250 dealer cost at this time.guy 2 happens to work at a bike shop and get parts at cost so he buys a blank frame. installs all the parts and gets reciepts from his shop for the rest of the bike he bought from bankruptcy man. crooked oh yes. in indiana all you need is a police inspection, doesnt matter who. could be local, state, or sherriff. guess who owns the bike shop, sure nough its a local cop. so he checks the receipts that he wrote, inspects the bike that he built and approves it. go figure. brings it to the dmv the make sure the cop is really a cop and run his badge. comes back good. kid gets his frame stamped custom title and since its custom title its cheaper than sportbike title and he pays half the insurance. thats how easy it is in indiana. crooked, oh yes it is.

*chandler knows nothing of this story, it could be fictious, all names are ficticious and chandler can not be held liable for anyone who knows of guy 1, guy 2, or the crooked cop. please keep things legable for if you dont you raise my damn insurance rates and i hate you and your family for letting it happen*

guy 3 says that in ohio, when guy 3 went to get salvage bike 1 inspected, guy 3 did not have receipts for lots of parts bought online, so officer 6a who was doing inspection told guy 3 that "once its inspected you can put whatever you want on it and do whatever you want to it" so guy 3 told officer 6a that he put "original" parts all back on before he tooke it to get inspected. Officer 6a then proceeded to inspect the bike. Inspection consisted of, whats the mileage? Not actual? OK. You can get a title now. No further questions from officer 6a. Officer 6a also informed guy 3 that if next time he dont have receipts for parts, dont tell any officers, because the only way they will know is if he tells them.

Guy 3's parts were not crooked, oh no, but just as easily could have been. Ohio is just as easy if not easier than any other state. :)

PS my insurance asked if my bike was a sport bike, and i said well its naked, so my insurance rates went down too. :)

The frame I'm talking about has already a title, it's a german one and it's registered.
I'm not going to mess up the vin so my interest is to get it in the US with proper paperwork.
I heard you need an offical import agent who acts as a warrantor for it.
It seems to me that is not as easy as i thought to import a bike (frame) into the US.
We'll see.

Hmmm I import frames and bikes and parts all the time.

I imported street bikes and stripped them down then brought them in frame engine and all as race only or off road only.

Then I put the lights back on and got receipts and told the DMV I built it out of parts. They gave me the papers I needed and I had leagal bikes. They never once asked how I got them in the country or for any import papers that I can recall.

If teh German has teh papers to show its a legal frame ther shoudl nto be an issue. He can ship direct to you as a cosignee. You will need an agent to get it in but it shoudl not be more than them clearing the frame for you. and you pic it up.

Not all that hard really.
