sorry if this has been covered, but what is the best degreaser to get an engine nice and shiny like so paint will stick? anybody ever try steam cleaning?

I'd varsol the outside, then take it down with some fine sandpaper.

Kerosine works well, but costs more.

You can sandblast it... but chances are good you might end up with a little sand inside the cylinder, or the head which is a TON of work to get clean.

If you really really want to get it clean you gotta steam it. Otherwise you're just going to have oil coming out of it forever.

its allways better to do somethign on your own,or at least try....but weight the costs of doing it your self or having someone else do for you,and whether or not you want the frustration


and yes steam is your best bet,i wouldnt recomend sand blasting unless you have the time and patience to clean the fucker when its done

no way on the sandblasting. I'm trying to not disassemble the whole engine to paint it. probably just take it to a care detailer and pay the $20
