Ducati has announced, that their bike, the Desmosedici GP06, will be getting stiffer and lighter for racing this year. Phillip Morris has already signed on as a sponsor, and the team is very confident about this season. The main changes to the bike were in reducing weight, and stiffening the overall bike, specifically the:
"frame, rims and front forks, especially at the rear of the bike. The composite structure that we call the seat support has been totally redesigned and stiffness has been increased by more than 80%."
(Claudio Domenicali)
The good news for riders is all in this statement, also from Claudio Domenicali:
"Racing in MotoGP allows us to operate with machines that are pure prototypes, developing technology that will subsequently be transferred to our production bikes. Ducati has always borrowed concepts and innovations from the racing world, and we transfer the possible benefits to our entire production range. "
