Was a balmy 9 degrees Celsius this afternoon. Figured I better take advantage and do a little cutting and welding outside tonight.

Cut the mounts for the passenger pegs off the old lower bar and welded them to the new one.

Then after the sun went down. I mocked up a location for the battery.

Ok nothing too exciting. Was going to just do some more welding of mounting tabs for the battery tray tonight but since It was snowing I didn't feel like getting the welder out. So just made some templates for cutting out metal when I can. A template for the undertail with the bends I'll need to make on a brake. And also a template for the side just under the tank and front of the seat. Needed something to cover that area.

And a GIMP idea of what the color it may be like. A darkish red with satin finish clear.

Went to the shop today and played. Made the rear wheel spacers and started the press fit bushing for the stem swap on the 636 triple. Finish could have been better but they will work fine I think.

Who needs a nice heated garage when you have a view like this beautiful snow. Besides winter is only 6-7 months. Need to get work done. :)

Battery box mounts in.

Bolt welded in to relocate the coil for a spot to put the thermostat.

Ok, I wasn't patient enough to wait until next week to press my stem in. I went and got out my princess auto pipe bender and found a way to use it to press the stem back in. Worked great.

On the piece I made I moved the lip in deeper to allow the stem to press farther in. That way it would put the place for the lower bearing right at the top of the triple since this triple is a lot thicker than the original.

Oh such a great feeling.

Not much done tonight. But every little bit helps. Stayed after work and made up the top spacer for the triple. Then wasn't too ambitious but I did a little bending of some metal for the side covers. And had a few helpers.

Played with a fuax patina look today just for fun. Think I'll stick to my plan to go dark red though. Also got my side covers mounted. And toyed with an idea of a belly pan with some cutting up of the stock fairings.

The fender in the picture is not the correct one. I need to get a fender for an 05-06 636.

Bolted on some metal for an undertail to keep the elements out.

Wonder how much grief I'll get from the law putting my plate back in there?

Id say its clearly visible from the back though.

Just another small update. Got everything routed and plugged in and it fits under the seat. Just need to find a place for the ignition and I think i'll be striping it all down again to put some paint on the frame and swingarm.

Not much getting done on the bike lately, But I think I'm done with the frame short of welding on a steering stop and another mounting bracket for the ignition. Then Its off to the shop to start sanding and get ready to spray hot rod black. Swingarm will be the same. This is what I did while my wife was still sleeping on boxing day. :)

One dilemma I am having is the paint for the rest of the bike. I kind of like the idea of being different and leaving the patina looking finish with rubbed off pinstriping. On the other hand I'd paint it a satin red or a glossy dark grey metallic lexus color. This time I actually need someone to help make up my mind, Because I would be fine with any of the three choices.

fauxtina

Lexus dark grey metallic

Satin red

Not much progress. But I got a headlight and speedometer. And started prepping the frame. I think I will be leving the fauxtina paint for now. since I still have to order a front fender. I like to paint stuff all at once so I can make sure colors/metallics match.

Another update coming in.

Got the frame painted tonight. The paint was pretty fresh in the picture. Still had to flash off a bit more to give it a more matte finish. Pick it up tomorrow maybe.

some assembly required.

Gonna tidy up some bits with some more black, like trips and heel guards and stuff. But I think the tank and tail will stay with that paint scheme for a while. I kind of like it because its different and will stand out I think. But once I get the belly pan done and a front fender it may all get painted. Thats all for tonight.

Little headlight and gauge mockup, I think the height is about right. Gotta run to home depot and get some alum stock to make some mounts.

and made some brackets.
